The markets ended with a smart rally. The Sensex closed at 11,539.68, up 302.45 points or 2.69%. It touched an intra day high of 11,560.90 and an intraday low of 11,323.74.
The Nifty closed at 3425.15, up 79.65 points or 2.38%. It touched an intraday high of 3433.65 and an intraday low of 3342.15.
The CNX Midcap ended at 4849.35, up 85.65 points or 1.805. It touched an intraday high of 4856.40 and an intraday low of 4805.85.
The BSE Small Cap Index ended up 106.05 points or 1.57% at 6,844.64. The BSE Midcap Index closed at 5,472.41, up 1.90% or 101.81 points.
The market breadth was positive, about 1630 shares advanced, 834 shares declined, and 56 shares remained unchanged.
The total market turnover recorded at Rs 44112.68 crore (Rs 441.12 billion). The NSE Cash turnover was at Rs 7946.62 crore (s 79.46 billion). The NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 32315.48 crore (Rs 323.15 billion). The BSE Cash turnover was at Rs 3850.58 crore (Rs 38.50 billion).
Guj Ambuja Cements, Grasim, Satyam, Infosys, TCS, HCL Tech and Nalco were the biggest gainers on the indices.
ONGC, Dr Reddy's Labs, GSK Pharma, Dabur India and Sun Pharma were the biggest losers on the indices.
Infosys, Tata Steel, Satyam, ACC and India Cements were the top trades in the NSE F&O segment. The Nifty futures ended with premium of 7 points. The Nifty futures added 16 lakh shares in Open Interest.

Metal stocks including Nalco, Jindal Steel, Guj NRE Coke, Tata Steel, Hind Zinc, JSW Steel, Hindalco, Jindal Stainless, Sail, Sesa Goa and Sterlite Ind also ended higher. The BSE Metal Index ended at 9,817.59, up 410.25 points or 4.36%.
Consumer durables stocks like Mirc Electronics, Whirlpool, Su-Raj Diamonds, Titan Industries and Blue Star also firmed up. The BSE Consumer Durables Index closed up 2.77% at 3,270.61.
The BSE Auto Index ended at 5,338.69, up 2.04% or 106.93 points amid buying in Amtek Auto, TVS Motor, MRF, Hind Motors, Escorts, Hero Honda, Ashok Leyland and M&M.
Banking stocks including UTI Bank, Canara Bank, ICICI Bank, IOB, Kotak Mahindra, Bank of Baroda and SBI also gained. The BSE Bankex closed up 1.94% at 5,206.57.
The BSE FMCG Index ended at 2,199.52, up 1.35% as gain were seen in Colgate, ITC, HLL, Tata Tea and Britannia.
Capital Goods stocks including Greaves Cotton, Gammon India, Bharat Electronics, Alstom Projects, Aban LoydChiles, KEC Infrastructures and ABB also spurted up. The BSE Capital Goods Index closed up 1.34% at 8,401.94.
Pharma stocks like Lupin, Divis Labs, Ranbaxy Labs, Biocon, Wockhardt and Aurobindo Pharma also surged. The BSE Healthcare Index ended up 1.26% at 3,871.10.
