ISSUE OF ATM CARDS
ATM cards are to be issued by specified Customer Branches only. These customer branches are to be connected to the ATM Switch and hence should have some mode of connectivity. The branches should also be STEPS enabled.
The criteria for issuance of ATM cards are advised by Personal Banking Department, Corporate Centre, Mumbai from time to time. Branches should follow these instructions.
The issuance of cards has been entrusted to a separate agency, details of which have already been communicated.
CUSTOMER INFORMATION BOOKLET:
A booklet containing information on transacting at ATMs such as how to input the PIN, how to operate the ATM for various transactions, how to proceed in case of loss of card, etc. is to be provided to all the ATM cardholders.
ISSUE OF ATM CARDS ON JOINT ACCOUNTS
EITHER OR SURVIVOR/ANYONE OR SURVIVOR:
In case of joint accounts operated by "either or survivor¬" or "anyone or survivor", a card may be issued to each account holder authorised to operate on the account. Minimum balance and other eligibility conditions would apply to each cardholder separately. For joint accounts, maximum of 2 cards can only be issued under different names.
FORMER OR SURVIVOR:
However, in case of joint accounts operated by "former or survivor¬", the card may be issued only to the "former¬". The request for issuing an ATM card must be signed by all the account holders in such cases.
JOINT OPERATION:
In case of the mode of operation is "jointly" by all the account holders, ATM cards cannot be issued. If the account holders desire ATM cards, they must change the mode of operation suitably.
LOSS OF ATM CARD
REPORTING OF LOSS OF CARD
Customers who lose the ATM card issued to them should report the loss in writing expeditiously to the branch during regular working hours.
If a customer reports the loss of a card over telephone or by telegram, it should be duly recorded and acted upon. The customer will be requested to confirm his instructions and the action taken by the Bank.
A suitable letter is to be sent to the customer immediately, acknowledging his instructions and advising him that necessary steps have been taken to stop further transactions on the card.
On receipt of such a letter, the branch should immediately communicate the ATM Card number to the ATM Switch Centre so that the card is made "hot". After it is made hot, transactions cannot be done using the card.
LOST ATM CARDS REGISTER:
The particulars of the lost card should be entered in the "Lost ATM Cards Register¬" and kept at the branch.
ISSUE OF DUPLICATE CARDS
NEED TO ISSUE DUPLICATE CARDS:
A need for issue of a duplicate card will arise on account of any of the following reasons:
Where the ATM card has been lost
Track error
ATM card is mutilated / damaged
RENEWAL OF ATM CARDS
Cards will be renewed automatically and sent to branches for onward distribution to customers.
In case the branch does not require cards to be renewed for any customer, the Card Issuing Agency should be advised at least 2 months before the expiry of the card.
CHARGES FOR ISSUE OF ATM CARDS:
ATM cards are, at present, issued free of charge to customers.
VALIDITY OF ATM CARD:
The ATM cards issued are valid for a period of 2 years.
OWNERSHIP OF ATM CARD:
The overall ownership of the ATM cards rests with the Bank. The cards are issued to the customers only to help identify them to the ATM for conducting transactions and they may retain the card till such time as their account is operational or the Bank recalls the card. The cardholders are required to surrender the card at the time of closure of the account.
DISPOSAL OF SURRENDERED/MUTILATED/RETRIEVED LOST CARDS: ATM cards may be surrendered to the branch for several reasons, inter alia,
When the customer closes his account
When the card is mutilated or damaged
When the card is reported lost and subsequently found
When the customers takes a renewed card
Such cards should be destroyed by cutting into 3 or more pieces after recording the particulars thereof in a separate section of the “ATM Cards Issued Register”¬, duly authenticated by the officer handling ATM related issues and the Cash Officer of the branch.
