Is India really an Independent Country..?

I think, our cultures and traditions make us un-independent. For those of us who want to evolve with time, this is bad news because there are people with power who are guarding these cultures and traditions with political interests.

That being said, I am not against the cultures and traditions. Many of them are actually making us good managers and better leaders, but there are some practices that make us not only bad at work but contribute to filthy characteristics in our personality.

Adding to Meheer's point..before discussing this topic i would like someone to give me a definition of 'Independence' in the Indian context. What kind of independence are we talking about here??..Financial independence, social independence, Independence of voice, Independence of corruption or Independence as a holistic package??..India's diverse culture is one of the things that sets it apart than the rest of the world both in a good and in a not so good way. A place where culture changes every 100 odd miles needs to be looked at differently instead of the vintage perspective of independence that we have been carrying till now. Different cultures here have grown differently over the years, have had different kinds of milestones and setbacks and are on different pages currently as far as Independence goes. I feel going about this topic in a more segmented and surgical way would yield more value and intelligence than if we discuss the topic in its entirety.

I would like to say that India is really an independent country in case of doing illegal things... and when anyone tries to protest against that then we raise question that r we independent....then the answer is NO...

India is indeed an Independent Country. I do understand that the recent happenings has made us wonder if this is really true. The responses to uprisings for justice being ignored and intentionally misinterpreted has prevoked the insecurities inside us. But to come to think about it, it is us who are facilitating this. We are a democratic country and we are blessed with Fudamental Rights which we so often fail to realise and instead feel helpless.

I would agree when they say that these Rights are indeed misused sometimes. This is due to sheer ignorance and greed which has bloomed in almost every individual in our Country. No one has the will to win a race with the hardwork and determination that they deserve. Instead, its a “Every man for himself” mantra where people feel free to push others down to make it on top. Least do they realise that they are left alone standing there!

We are a sovereign country and do have the Rights!! We just do not realise it! And coming to think about political influence that deprive us of these rights, we need to understand that we are the ones who facilitate this by electing them!

Yes we are independent and have all fundamental rights of India which every Indian can utilized in any field. We have the right to vote, choose our leader and moreover our nation is DEMOCRACY i.e for the people, of the people and by the people.
