To develop Technically and in advanced medical terms is good. But to hav a impact on culture India is slowly loosing its own Identity.

Re: Does India losing its Identity in the name of Westernisation

no not at all, india will never gona lose its Identity .

yes, this western culture is affecting our traditional culture......

how can you say india is losing its identity[

look at city roads after 12.0 AM, late night parties, pub culture.....etc etc

ironically..... i dnt understand y gals dresses r getting shorten day by day...der cloth sizes r reducing with their increasing ages.......ny wayz dis western culture is helping in maintaing cloth consumption........

Gandhiji said our country vl get independence only wen gals walk on roads bravely even in mid nights..... but nw gals r dancing, drinking n roaming on roads.....n dis westernism shd get da full apreciation 4 dis......

der is no doubt dat dis western culture is affecting our tradition.....but still in optimistic view it certainly got some positive results 2..........

no, it is evolving. this is the time when the BASIC coun tries are on the faster growth trajectory. Westernisation should be imbibed as it is a part of the churningf

@reenagenius

india still uphelds its culture and heritage which runs in indian veins..

i feel pity as v can notice esp gals wearing westernized dresses 2 even temples.....

der use 2 b a perfect protocol for men n women...but now itz geting hard 2 difrntiate btwn a gal n a guy.......as gals shortening der hair(bob cut) and guys r neatly growing der hair like pony tails neatly tying wid bands....gals r going after shirts and pants.......

is encouraging premarital sex(sex b4 marriage),pub life,late night parties,dating,public romance......are a part of our INDIAN culture??

just question ourselves how many of us r good at our local language in comparison with english.......?

now many r thinking dat, 2 speak in english dat 2 in accent as if posh(level) and using local language as cheap.....

many countries dont encourage people 2 conversate in english but in our country schools impose strict rules on children 2 speak only in english, even parents r asking children 2 speak only in english....

hats off 2 dis globalization, coz now children dnt know who is prathiba patil but defntly know whz barack obama..............

itz not western culture but it is us, our system humiliating our INDIAN culture....

I agree to this statement partially.there is a definite trend of excessive westernisation which is influencing our contemporary society, especially in the metros. Its true tht we havent lost our identity yet , but if the current scenario of western culture(excluding technological advancement) gradually keeps expanding it will definitely influence our culture .

no, just the thing is that india is moving with the market. anything that remain unchanged gets washed out, it change with the change. ya 1 more thing is that the western countries did it first that y we say westernization else it would have been easternization. so better late then never.

It wont affect Indian tradition much but seeing one or two incidents we feel that India looses its identity.

wot i personally feel that this statement is true to a large extent abit only in urban areas.....rural india is still the same ..orthodox and stuck to its roots....though westernization has its own pro's but it should not be at the cost of our culture heritage n losing our identity....

the changing face of society ,The immoral acts which todays youth enegage in ...in the name of independence and westernization ll surely have dire consequences in future...

What cultural identity are we referring to here? Maharashtra is losing its cultural identity to the influx of people from Gujarat and U.P, Calcutta is losing its cultural identity to the large Marwari population, Delhi has already lost whatever culture it had to the influx of Punjabis, J&K is just...well, lost,Goa is losing its culture to the influx from U.P, Sikkim is losing its cultural identity to the influx from the rest of India....shall I go on?

"Westernization' if at all, is just a minor contributor to the all-round erasure that's happening. Cultures evolve. Sometimes for the worse. Often for the better.

I believe India is not loosing its identity, but like everything else...everything changes. India is changing towards the future, while using its identity. India is using its culture, beliefs, knowledge, to move forward and the same time its identity follows
