We often boasts about India being a democratic country. But reading b/wn the lines will give a complete diff picture. We aren't able to make progress even 60 yrs after Independence.Communist country China is way ahead of us in infrastructure and is really proving to the world tat it can do anything in this world.Even pakistan is equally competent with us in the military technology and has tested few missiles.Even Russia is catching-up fast in IT and it is already a Oil major.Even in a democratic country like India, ppl are not really happy about the way Govt is functioning.Corruption is omnipresent, justice is delayed, terrorism is taking some lives here and there and ppl are even afraid to step into a police station for complaning. Most of the Rape cases are not even bought to the notice of the cops and women are ready to bear it.Majority of the cases reported are yet to be solved.

Is Democracy the best form of Govt?

Whether democracy works out for a country or not, again depends on the country, in turn, the people. It definitely has a relation to play with the mentality of the people of the country.
Democracy has worked out well for United States, as they have one type of mentality and not for India, as we have a different type of mentality.
Even though we refer to India as the largest democracy in the world, are we actually allowed to raise our voices, express what we feel? Isn't it like a joke, that being in a democracy the commom people are not allowed to speak up against any injustice that takes place in the society, in the country? Why is the common man afraid to voice his opinion even when he knows in his heart of hearts he's right? Why does the police overlook the crime of the affluent? Why do the politicians make hollow promises without any exception? No answers.

Still, we are in a democracy, and mind it, the largest in the world!

yaa i too favour this punchline: democracy is the best form of government that any country should have...as its only democracy that provide so many funadamental rights, legal rights to its citizens for their own defence , for their own existence and happiness....
And further we r too blessed wid the Right to information (RTI).to keep a check on the govt. itself , on the ministers, or any senior authority, any buisness entity, any individual ..
And after looking so many democratic countries success , economic growth day by day, many countries are too trying their best to get converted into democratic govt. and thus accepting the fact that: Democracy Is THE best form of govt. we have....
And the Recent examples we have with us are:-- Pakistan accepting democracy finally.;
secondly Nepal too...

democracy if applied properly can be the best form of government, but as in our countries, democracy is just a name, there is nothing like democratic government in India.......

Democracy is no doubt best form of govt...cos its for d ppl. by d ppl n to d ppl.....but in country like India where illiteracy n corruption is major issue...democracy cant serve its purpose................

if it wasn'e democracy we wouldn't be writing our thoughts in this blog about it being good or bad...so think again does this right hold any importance to you..

although i believe that democracy is indeed the ideal form of government, I also believe that it does not exist in its true shape within today's "democratic" nations. the problem is corruption and i dont think that there is one nation that is excluded from it.

well, i am in favour of capitalism.. where everyone is forced to perform or perish.. see what democracy has made of India.. india;s legislature isnt progressing.. the other way though

Yes,, The reason why it is said to be the best form of government is that democracy is a system how people can live happily, since the interest of the people is better than the one of the state, better known as Common Good.

In a democracy all citizens are equal before the law
The idea that every single person should be treated equally before the law is a very noble one. There should be no racial profiling, no money making some citizen more equal than the others, or money purchasing the best legal advice there is, whereby people without money play Russian roulette with legal aid lawyers. It would be really nice if political connections and nepotism would not count and all people have the same chance to be judged fairly.

Democracy is freedom
Already Aristotle defined democracy as freedom, where rule by the many should allow the citizen to live as they please. While there should be some sort of government ruling over citizen and some sort of constitution defining the liberties, the freedom should be the paramount goal of a peaceful togetherness. While this wonderful theory has nothing to do with the harsh reality, a true democracy would employ citizens’ preferences into a binding law. Since that people are individuals and opinions are abundant, furthermore tastes are as variable as the color patterns or the stars in the sky, it should have been vivid that the theory would remain just words on paper.

Democracy, as it was conceived, is not possible. As long as people crave to have more than the next person, as long as there is a monetary system, as long as there are desires, lust, hunger, greed, power, wealth, luxury – the list could go on almost forever – there cannot be a true democracy. The mutated idea, marred by all the aforementioned, is what the humanity has got to live with. Since that there is nothing better available, we have to cringe and hope for a better future.
