Brendon McCullum and Dwayne Smith have given Chennai Super Kings a flying start in IPL 7 with their explosive partnership at the top of batting order and the New Zealander described his opening partner a powerful and intelligent cricketer.

There is still a long way to go in the tournament, but I have certainly enjoyed my partnership with Dwayne Smith, The Doctor It is great to bat with him because he is so powerful and has a lot of options in his batting, McCullum said. He is a very intelligent cricketer as well. We seem to have a good rapport and get a good partnership going. It is nice to be able to contribute, and personally too I am enjoying my time with CSK so far. Smith scored three fifties in five matches and McCullum hit two half-centuries to currently lie at the second and third position in the most runs list respectively. Asked if they form the most explosive pair, McCullum said: So far we have done well. We may not be the most explosive pair, but in terms of how we have been playing, we have managed to give our team a good start in most games.

We are pretty lucky that both of us hit the ball and hit it in different areas. I saw a comment from our captain, M.S. Dhoni, earlier in the week when he said that Smith and I don't compete against each other but we complement each other, which is nice to have in an opening partnership. With their UAE leg over, Chennai will next play against Kolkata Knight Riders on May 2 in Ranchi and McCullum hoped that his side can continue their winning run. It has been a good time here. We have played some good cricket, and if we had been given four out of five wins for this part of the tournament before the start of the competition, we would have been pretty happy, he said. We have played well and gelled quite nicely as a team with a couple of new changes with me coming into the unit too. Hopefully, we continue that form when we get to India.

It will be fun to be back in India and play at Chennai. I have played there against Chennai Super Kings a few times and it will be nice now that I am playing with them. I am sure we will get good support there as well. If we keep playing good cricket, it will certainly help, he added.

In a thrilling encounter that kept cricket enthusiasts on the edge of their seats, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) faced off against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a highly anticipated Indian Premier League (IPL) match. The clash, held at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, was a perfect blend of strategic brilliance and raw talent, showcasing why these two teams are perennial favorites in the tournament.

CSK, led by the experienced MS Dhoni, won the toss and elected to bowl first, a decision that seemed to pay off as the SRH batsmen found the going tough on a pitch that offered some assistance to the bowlers. The opening partnership between Abhishek Sharma and Priyam Garg was crucial, as they managed to steady the ship with a 50-run stand. However, once the CSK bowlers, particularly the in-form Deepak Chahar and the ever-reliable Shardul Thakur, started to make inroads, the SRH innings began to falter. The middle order, including Aiden Markram and Washington Sundar, tried their best to accelerate but were ultimately let down by some crucial wickets that fell at inopportune moments. SRH finished their innings with a total of 158 runs, a score that seemed manageable but not enough to ensure a comfortable victory.

In response, CSK's chase got off to a cautious start, with Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad playing out the initial overs without taking undue risks. The duo's partnership was the cornerstone of CSK's innings, providing the stability needed to navigate through the early overs. However, a crucial breakthrough by T Natarajan, who dismissed Gaikwad, brought a momentary pause in the CSK momentum. MS Dhoni, coming in to bat, once again demonstrated his match-winning abilities, anchoring the innings with a calm and composed performance. His partnership with Moeen Ali, who played a quickfire innings, was crucial in taking CSK closer to the target. Despite a late surge from the SRH bowlers, CSK managed to chase down the target with a few balls to spare, sealing a hard-fought victory.

The match was a testament to the depth and quality of both teams, with each player contributing in their own way to make it a memorable contest. CSK's victory not only strengthened their position in the points table but also reinforced their reputation as one of the most consistent and formidable teams in the IPL. For SRH, despite the loss, there were several positives to take away, particularly the performances of their young batsmen and the promise shown by their emerging talent. As the tournament progresses, both teams will be keen to build on this performance and continue their campaigns with the same level of intensity and determination.
