Q. Tell us about yourself.
A. I am a finance professional with experience across the domains of Retail, Corporate & Investment Banking. In the 17 years of my career ,i have worked across functions like Front office, Operations, Training ,HR , Strategic Change Management and Financial budgeting , which provides me with a unique vantage point and a holistic perspective of the industry.
Q. Tell us something about your company?
A. Imarticus Learning, formed by a team of Senior Finance professionals ,was created with a vision to bridge the gap between academia and corporate.
We provide specialized learning and placement programs in the areas of Finance and Analytics ,with experstise across Investment Banking, Retail Banking, Corporate Banking and Data Analytics .Our programs in Business analysis, Equity Research & Financial Modeling offer the student a unique opportunity to learn from senior industry professionals and build careers in Banking ,Finance and Analytics.
We have state of the art learning centers in Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai ,where our faculty with extensive Industry experience, provide a unique learning experience to our students. Since the firms inception in 2012 we have trained placed over 1500+ students across Finance and Analytics.
Our client list includes all leading Investment Banks, Retails Banks and Analytics firms, where we provide them services ranging from Corporate training to Sourcing, training and placement of resources through bespoke programs.
Q. What attracted you to this company?
A. The education market in India, which is presently worth around Rs 5.9 trillion (US$ 92.98 billion), is poised for some major growth in the years to come, as by 2020, India will have the world's largest tertiary-age population, and second largest graduate talent pipeline globally. The higher education sector in India is poised for an average growth of 18 per cent per year till 2020.This was one of the key drivers for me to join the firm and move industry after 16 years.
Also I was a part of the core team and joined the firm in the first year of Operation. I believed that being a start up ,it would offer me a chance to explore new avenues, and yet allow me to leverage my experience across functions and domains.
Q. According to you, what is management all about?
A. Simply put ,Management is all about the ability to identify the right opportunities ,devise the correct strategies to deliver to those opportunities and bring together and manage a team of resources who can deliver the vision.
Hence conception --> planning --> execution is what its all about
Q. What motivates you to do your best on the job?
A. The team that i work with and the unique learning opportunities that every new day brings.
Q. What is your management style to solve a problem?
A. I believe that every problem can be solved through deliberation and discussion amongst all parties involved. I practice a participative style of leadership where every individual has an opportunity to express their viewpoint and provide their inputs for resolution of issue.
Q. What are the key responsibilities of your current job?
A. I am the head of Student Relations & Sales with delivery across student acquision, counseling and governance. I also manage external relationships ranging from colleges to career counselors and other student sources.
Client Relationship management is also a part of my role where i manage a few of our leading clients with an aim to deepen and strength then these relationships for better business prospects.
I am a Certified Counselor in the Robert Cark huff methodology of counseling and i use this effectively in my interaction spectrum, consisting of leading financial clients on one end and students on the other.
Q. What have you gained after completing your MBA / Masters?
A. A masters degree provides one with a good overview across domains and functions which are augmented through the real life learning during ones corporate experience.
Q. What are the expectations of Companies or organizations from professionals?
A. Firms today are looking for professionals who are thinkers and not just doers. These individuals need to innovate & reinvent them seleves constantly to be able to keep up with the fast paced changes that corporate are currently witnessing.
They need to have life skills that allow them to manage the demands of the competitive corporate environment and knowledge and innovation which helps them to add value to their day to day functions.
Q. Is the Name of the Institute from where a student does his/her graduation important while entering into corporate world?
A. The name of the institute does provide an advantage while entering into the corporate world but once they start delivering then what matters is the unique proposition that they bring to the table ,their diligence and the value that they are able to add.
Q. How the academic program and coursework you have done benefited your career?
A. The academic curriculum provides one with the roadmap and guide to menouver their way through corporate in the initial years of their career. This is then enriched by real life experience which creates the unique professional in each one of us.
Q. Tell me about your proudest achievement?
A. Being a mother of 2 children I take pride in being able to balance my professional and personal life .It gets very demanding on me as an individual, but is totally worth it.
Q. What advice would you like to give to someone taking up a job similar to your current profile?
A. Keep calm in all situations, it does more good that we realize & don’t stop reinventing yourself .
