Liverpool fans had better hope that Thierry Henry finds his way to Barcelona this summer. Not only will it mean a weakened Arsenal team next season, but it’ll also open the door for Samuel Eto’o to leave.
The talk is that the Cameroon striker’s preferred destination would be Anfield and that would be good news for everyone who loves Liverpool. Eto’o has been the best striker in the world for more than two years now and he would be the first truly world-class player to be signed by Liverpool since 1977,when Kenny Dalglish began a legendary stint that brought so much success.
The money involved will not be insignificant, but Rafa Benitez wants to bring in the best and the Amercian owners have promised him the money to do so. If Eto’o doesn’t line up for Liverpool in the first game of the Premier League season, there had better be someone just as good alongside Dirk Kuyt or the promises that has kept Rafa Benitez from joining Real Madrid (so far) will appear to have been empty ones.
Left-and right-sided midfielders will be valuable, but Liverpool need a goal scorer. David Villa might fit the bill, but he’s not the player Eto’o is. Rafa has tried to sign before and you can bet he’s doing so again. It’s time for Messers Gillett and Hicks to put their considerable money where Rafa’s intellect is.
In today’s Liverpool Echo, Hicks has again pleaded for patience in the transfer market – not a good sign. Benitez’ main complaint about Liverpool’s dealings in the transfer market is that they’ve moved too slowly.
God Speed.
