
Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK) to launch the 2ndEdition of Calicut Mini-Marathon 2011

The second edition of the Federal Bank Calicut Mini-Marathon was launched with great aplomb on 18th January 2011. The launch was done at the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode Campus and was well attended by many dignitaries including Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, Director of IIMK, the District Collector, Dr. P.B. Salim, the President of the District Sports Council, Mr. K.J. Mathai, Mr. C.P. Mohandas, the Deputy General Manager of Federal Bank, President of the Calicut Press Club, Mr. R. Madhusakar and many others.
The Marathon is being organised by the Social Service Group (SSG) of the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode in association with the District Sports Council and the Usha School of Athletics, and in collaboration with Hilite Builders, Mathrubhumi, Red FM, Asianet CV,
MIMSHospital, Rotary Club of Calicut Midtown, National Service Scheme and Focus Mall.
The Marathon will be conducted on 6th February 2011 and now that the event has been launched, the city is brimming with excitement eagerly awaiting for the D-day to arrive. The theme of the marathon is ‘Transforming Lives’.
Registrations for the Mini-Marathon 2011 kick started on 23rd January at the Focus Mall in CalicutCity. Hordes of people visited the Marathon stall on the opening day and registered themselves in droves. The city is abuzz with the excitement this unique event is creating. And we call this event unique because unlike other marathons which charge a hefty registration fees, participation at the Calicut Mini-Marathon is open and free for all. The organisers of the Mini-Marathon, students from the Social Service Group at the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikodebelieve that since the event is being used as a tool for social transformation,registration must be free. However, donations are encouraged as all proceeds collected will be distributed to a few select NGOs in Calicut city who are working in the field of education for differently abled children. The Marathon this year is dedicated to promoting the cause of education and social inclusion for the specially-abled children in our society through its theme ‘Transforming Lives’.
There are multiple ways of registering for the Calicut Mini-Marathon. Interested participants can visit our registration desk at the Focus Mall which will function every day from 1 pm to 8 pm. They can visit the District Sports Council Officeduring office hours. Outstation candidates can register via telephone by calling on+919645375897 or they can register online by logging onto our websitewww.calicutmarathon.com. They will have to sign the declaration on the day of the marathon. The above modes of registration will close by 4th February. The registration process is also underway in schools and colleges across Calicut.
The participants who register for the event will have to produce the counterfoil of their registration form and they will be issued a Running BIB number against it. Limited number of free T-shirts will also be issued to the participants on a first-come-first-serve basis.
This mini marathon will be of 10 km and will be conducted separately for men and women. The prize money for each category would be Rs.100000 for the 1st place, Rs.50000 for the 2nd place and Rs.25000 for the 3rd place. Consolation prizes will be given to till 20th position. On the whole, the total prize money for the event is worth Rs.4 lakh. The tentative time for the start of the race is 7:00 am and the reporting time for all participants is 6:00 am. There is also a celebrity run which covers a stretch of around 3 kilometres. The guests of honour, the celebrities, and students from all colleges and schools can participate in this.
