India proclaims USD 500 million help for mega infra challenge in Maldives
India will fund the implementation of a serious connectivity challenge in Maldives via a USD 400 million line of credit score and USD 100 million grant, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stated on Thursday after holding wide-ranging talks along with his Maldivian counterpart Abdulla Shahid. The 6.7 km Greater Male Connectivity Project (GMCP) would be the largest civilian infrastructure challenge in Maldives, connecting Male with three neighbouring islands — Villingili, Gulhifahu and Thilafushi, officers stated.
People conversant in the GMCP stated it was a key election promise of the ruling MDP for which the President of Maldives Ibrahim Mohamed Solih sought India’s help throughout his assembly with Jaishankar in September final 12 months.
