India’s First Woman Blade Runner Motivates over 585 Participants at SIBM Bengaluru’s Life Dart

Bengaluru, 9th December 2017: LifeDart 5K & 10K Run, the Annual Fundraiser Run of

SIBM Bengaluru, was conducted successfully by the Rotaract club and the Social

Responsibility Committee of Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, Bengaluru in

association with the Rotary Indiranagar (District 3190) in Electronic City on Saturday.

The cause for this year’s marathon was for the education and upliftment of the

underprivileged children in India. The Institute has partnered with the NGOs Sadashraya

Charitable Trust and Gaspar Foundation, which will receive the proceeds of the event to

achieve the humanitarian goal.

This was the fourth edition of LifeDart and based on the success of this event in the past, this

year, SIBM Bengaluru went a mile ahead and introduced the 10K run along with the 5K run.

The event was a grand success with the organizing committee managing to raise a fund of

approximately ?2,32,050 from the ticket sales and the generous contribution from the Rotary

Indiranagar.

Commencing as early as 06:30 in the morning, the event began on high spirits with over 585

runners warming-up in the Zumba and Aerobics session conducted by the students of SIBM

Bengaluru in the field. The atmosphere was charged with energy and enthusiasm. The

melodious performance by Saaz – the music club of SIBM Bengaluru, at the end of the run,

rejuvenated everyone.

The runners were a mixed bag of professionals and students. Wipro, CGI, Infosys, Deutsch

Bank are some of the corporates that participated in the run. The students poured in from

various institutes like Welingkar Institute of Management Development & Research, IFIM B-

School and so on.

India’s First Woman Blade Runner – Ms. Kiran Kanojia, the Chief Guest, graced the

event with her presence. She addressed the gathering, “Life is full of challenges, but it is also

full of colours. When faced with a problem, you must believe in yourself to solve it.

Although I am India’s first woman blade runner, I still have a lot to learn. Learning is a

continuous process.” Upon being asked about the event, she quoted, “I saw a lot of energy in

students and it pleases me to see that they are setting an example for the future generation.

Work will always be there, but that should not stop you from achieving your dreams. Let no

one doubt your capabilities.”

The president of Rotary Indiranagar, Mr. Praveen, said “It is not about just raising the money,

but utilising it in the proper way. LifeDart 5K & 10K Run gives you that opportunity.”

Mr. S. Saravanan was the fastest to complete the 5K run within a mere 16 minutes. He said,

“It feels great to have contributed in my own way for a noble cause. I will see you again next

year at the finish line.” In the 10K run, 16-year- old hockey player, Mr. Ashith M bagged the

first position by completing the track in just 33 minutes. Brimming with excitement, he said

“Though it was not easy, but knowing that I was running for a good cause motivated me to

give my best.”

Following the tradition of awarding the fastest woman runner, Ms. Aakriti Verma won the

title. She remarked, “If we can do something good for the society, we should use the

opportunity.”

Mr. Rohan Bhandari, President of the Rotaract Club of SIBM Bengaluru, was elated with the

success of the event. He stated,” Organizing something like this on a such a grand scale takes

a lot of hard work and team effort. But knowing it is all for a good cause, makes it all worth

it.”
