India’s first Skills Enterprise Plan Competition @ DMS IIT DELHI

India’s first Skills Enterprise Plan Competition

In search of ambitious and scalable business models for meeting the objectives of India @75, the organizers of first ever skills enterprise plan competition, reached Department of Management Studies IIT Delhi. DMS made it to the list of very few management institutions eligible for participation in this competition, which is a brainchild of Mr.P. Chidambaram and a joint effort of CII, NSDC, ISB and E&Y.

The session was conducted by Commodore(Retd)[/b] Arun Chaube from CII[/b] and Ms. Bhavna Chopra from NSDC[/b] who took us through the objectives of India @75 and how the competition fits into the whole scenario. Creating a 500 million skilled labor work force by 2022 is a challenging task indeed, and involving the youth with all its vigor and creativity is necessary to make it happen. Mr. Chaube stated that there are two competitions with prize money worth Rs. 2 Lakhs each. The first of these is for the Best Business plan and the second for the Next Practices category. Ms. Chopra explained that there is a demand and there is a potential for supply of skilled labour but since the employability levels are still low, that means the existing system is not sufficient to bridge the gap. She also stressed on the utilization of presently available infrastructure to base a business model.

The session ended with a positive note of continued cooperation of DMS with CII and NSDC. The guests received a token of appreciation from DMS students and a roaring applause which embodied the entrepreneurial zeal of the students.
