Increasing no. of NGOs in India.... Does this mean India shining ??

In today's India, a lot many NGOs are opening day by day. Every now and then I see the post of intern vacant in some NGO not heard before. They hire intern for every possible purpose, may it be web designing, web development, mba interns, content writers, database managers and what not. They need people for almost every work you may think of. But, the point to be noted is, that do they really work for the welfare of the needy, or it is something else because of which they enter the market with the label of N.G.O. Well, the benefits which they get entering the market place as an NGO makes me think that way. What do you guys think about that ??
Well, does this increasing number of NGOs means that our nation is going quick towards development, does this data/scenario depict that India is shining or there is some other story altogether ??? I leave it to you...

number of NGO is representative of either people increasing concern about country related matter or new revenue stream as shown by many NGO

India has possibly the largest number of active non-government, not-for-profit organisations in the world. A recent study commissioned by the government put the number of such entities, accounted for till 2009, at 3.3 million. That is one NGO for less than 400 Indians, and many times the number of primary schools and primary health centres in India.

Its good there has been increase in number of NGo's ...
But India will shine when the number of help seeksrs by these NGO's will decrease....

Welfare programs from the NGOs can be of various types. NGOs perform a wide range of activities. For example, there are NGOs that have special programs for extreme situations such as a medical emergency. If there is a plague in a city, they will come forward to help the people by sending required people to assist the victims and by sending them enough medical supplies. If there is a flood in a particular part of the country, they will send food aid to the affected people and volunteers to assist them. They may also provide temporary shelters to people in such situations. When tsunami hit India or earthquake caused severe havoc, many NGOs came forward with their help in terms of food aids, medical supplies and with volunteers. This is one of the roles of NGOs, that is helping people in times of a catastrophe.

I dont think the increasing number of NGOs as a good sign.

I think NGOs Lead to misallocation and under-utilisation of resources not all but it is applicable to 70% of NGOs, from my prospective.

There are inherent flaws when we see NGOs as an entity dealing with social issues because:
1. Most of them dont have to borne the cost associated with it, the cost is usually borne by the third party, who donates to NGO. As the cost associated with acquiring such resources are not to be borne by NGOs it lead to under-utilisation of resources due to lack of motivation to save the cost associated with it.
2. ACCOUNTABILITY
NGOs are not accountable whether they deal with issues/cause or not, whether their action yield result or not. They are not accountable to people.
3. Policies to regulate the functioning of NGOs are liberal, as such liberal Policies & regulations allows one to manipulate the use of resources. Again the work of NGOs in most of the cases are not transparent.
4. It leads to mis-allocation of resources. A person whether poor or rich performs well in the competition when a person got the sense of security of his well-being he tends to perform at low-level. NGOs indirectly promote such sense of feelings among poor through their noble cause by giving away. However, action of giving away allows an individual to get reward without hard-work in economic term paying cost to achieve such reward.

In real those NGOs only are helpful to solve the issue who not provide food to poor but provide means to earn food, who dont give education to all irrespective of the person competitiveness (though, education to all is the right of each & every individual) because the person with less self motivation is taking away the chance of the one who is motivated to get educated.

In simple sense, NGOs promote feelings dont worry we're there to care of you (again not all, but here in 90% of cases) and such feelings never eradicate/ alleviate social issues existing in the society. Infact, from my point of view NGOs is one of the best way to earn money ( opportunity cost, one has to pay to themselves, whether owner or employed) and to convert black money to white also to have tax advantage and again to take unfair advantage due to lack of strict regulations.

However there will probably be a huge number of NGOs in India but not all are useful and honest. But it is true that India seriously requires NGOs to support its government in order to improve the life-style of the public. There should be a system which can keep a track of whether your charity money is using for the right purpose or not.
