The IMT-G MBA student, class of 2011-2013, was presented with an award of merit at the FICCI Global Sports Summit TURF 2011 held Oct. 20-21 in New Delhi.

Applying his academic abilities to the field of sports netted Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad’s Niraj Satnalika a certificate of merit at the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry third Global Sports Summit “TURF 2011.”

His article entitled Sports – The New Emerging Career was selected among the five best in a competition by the FICCI Sports Committee aimed at getting Indian youth to share their vision on sports business development in India.

In a bid to increase awareness and knowledge of the sports sector, along with encouraging people to explore areas of entrepreneurship in sports, the FICCI sponsored the contest, calling for articles on one of seven topics: Public private partnership in sports; sports and entertainment: a formula for mass appeal; sports as a full-time career; creating profitable sports properties; making sports a state asset; leaguization of sports in India and a draft sports (development) bill.

In his winning article on careers in sports, Satnalika wrote sports “is emerging as one of the most lucrative options in India in today’s world.”

He said: “Looking at the tremendous success in the recent Commonwealth Games conducted in the national capital and other major international sporting events including some of the unconventional games like wrestling, lawn tennis badminton and shooting has made sports one of the chosen career options in India.”
