IIT Kharagpur presents GES 2012

Global Entrepreneurship Summit is the annual flagship event of Entrepreneurship Cell, IIT Kharagpur which will be held this year from 13th to 15th January, 2012. The theme of this edition of GES is “Innovators: The Creators of Tomorrow”. The inauguration ceremony will host a guest lecture by Mr. Suneet Singh Tuli, the creator of the Aakash tablet, the most economical tablet computing device the world has ever seen. Mr Aneesh Reddy, CEO of Capillary Technologies, will also address the students at the inauguration. His company, Capillary Technologies, was funded and incubated by E-Cell IIT Kharagpur in 2008, and today is ranked among the top 10 technology start-up companies in India.

The Global Entrepreneurship Conference, 2012 which will be conducted as a part of the summit, will feature live video conference between delegates from distinguished foreign universities, including University of Cambridge, Boston University, Ryerson University and Singapore Management University. This conference will also host a 1M/1M roundtable conference; 1M/1M is a global initiative of Sramana Mitra ( Silicon Valley entrepreneur, Forbes Columnist and on the board of directors of more than 80 companies to nurture a million entrepreneurs to reach a million dollars in annual revenue. GES’12 also features Connect the Dots Conference, where E-Cells from colleges across India will meet and discuss their ideas and strategies. The Innovators' Conference, an interactive panel discussion, with representatives from among academicians, media persons and entrepreneurs will also be conducted during the summit.

Students are avidly looking forward to the exciting workshops that will be part of GES. Autodesk, the 3D software giant, will be conducting a workshop on Digital Prototyping. A workshop on Intellectual Property Rights will be conducted by FICCI. Other workshops include one on "Fundamentals of Entrepreneurship" by Prof. Anjan Raichaudhuri, who set up the Centre of Entrepreneurship in IIM Calcutta and is currently Currently Visiting Prof,IIMC and Dean, Entrepreneurship, IIPM and another on "Challenges in Sustaining a Business" which will be conducted by Mr Samaresh Shah from Capgemini.

The Start-up Camp, a wonderful first-of-its-kind platform for the best startups in India to interact with students and also provide them an opportunity to pitch their ideas in front of VC’s including Seedfund, Ennovent, Seeders, Mumbai Angels, Indian Angel Network, and many more, is another major attraction of the summit. The Start ups will also hire college students as interns or even full time employees, an invaluable opportunity for college-goers all over the country.

GES'12 has a number of distinguished speakers including Mr. Angsuman Chakraborty, Founder and CEO of Taragana speaking during the summit. Mrs Sunita Ramnathkar, Former promoter of Fem Care Pharma Ltd and successful entrepreneur as well as Mr Debabrata Bagchi, Founder-CEO of Sparsha Learning Technologies and IIT Kharagpur alumnus will be addressing the audience during the closing ceremony.

The finals of the Business-Plan competitions: Concipio and Empresario and product development competition Envision where finalists from across the globe battle it out will be held during the summit. Events like the Biz Quiz, the Innovation Exhibition (a showcase of the latest product technologies), networking sessions, and on-spot events like Monopoly, Tag ‘em ol, and ‘Thank God it’s Friday’, will keep the adrenaline pumping for the entire weekend.

Prominent guests of previous editions of GES include Kanwal Rekhi (Founder TiE), Dominique Trempont (CEO 3com, Finisar), Sramana Mitra (Forbes columnist and Silicon Valley entrepreneur), Irfan Alam, Harish Hande (social entrepreneur and Magsaysay award winner) and Sanjeev Bhickchandnai (founder, Naukri.com) among many others. Workshops by Fox and Mandal on Intellectual Property Rights, by Entrepreneurship Development Institute, on Pitching by Indian Angel Network, by Novell, by NSEF and Wi- camp by Wipro were highlights of the previous years.
