Day One at Echoes 2012, IIM Kozhikode
Echoes 2012, the Annual Cultural Festival of The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK) commenced on the 13th of January, 2012.
This premier event is conducted by the Cultural Committee of IIM Kozhikode, and is jam-packed with exciting activities spread over the entire weekend.
The event’s title sponsor is the Central Bank of India and associate sponsor is Union Bank of India.
This year’s edition of Echoes, aptly captioned ‘the big bang’,spans for three days witha plethora of competitions, providing a national level platform for the participating students to display their talent.
Day One saw a varied bundle of diverse events. Literary events such as Mo(s)tley Lit, the artistic Wall’s treatand the virtual gaming contest Crash n Burn saw an encouraging turnout and ethusiastic participation.
The evening kick-started with ‘India Nite’, presented by SPICMACAY, which featured famed Indian classical musician and practicioner of the KiranaGharana style, Pandit Ajay Pohankar.After this, it was time for the college bands to prove their music mettle at Hill Top Jam in which Kochi based ‘Black Letters’, with their colourful guitars, emerged victorious and bagged prizes worth Rs.25000.
The evening ended on a high note with NIFT, Kannur and NIT, Calicut grabbing the top two places at ConcorDance, the group dance extravaganza, which gave away prizes worth Rs. 30000 to the winners. Concordance was judged by renowned international performer and choreographer George Jacob and Neha Gupta who, earlier in day, helped the students learn some cool moves at theSalsa and Bachata dance workshop.
The event line-up for Days Two and Three just go on to prove that Echoes 2012 is getting bigger and better. The following days have contests such as literary events, quizzes, solo/duet dance competitions, Curtain Call – the stage play, Altar of Rock– the rock band face-off, a much awaited performance from well-known singer Neeraj Sridhar along with workshops on photography and digital movie making.
With a buck load of prizes to be won while enjoying the scenic IIM Kozhikode campus, after the amazing Day One and all the fun activities scheduled for its remaining duration, Echoes truly promises to be the big bang.
