IIMA, 3rd March 2014: At 12.30 AM, amid thunderous applause from the crowd filled with good proportions of both faculty and students, Bhushan Gachake, the outgoing cultural secretary of IIMA, ended the streak of 30-hours of continuous drumming to enter the Limca Book of World Records. Bhushan started the feat at 1:30 pm on 1st March and ended the marathon at 12:30 am on 3rd March, only taking a break of 10 minutes every hour. Throughout the performance, he was supported by the IIMA Music Club members and institute faculty.
Still as cheerful and as energetic as he was at the start, he expressed his disbelief of receiving such a humungous support from the whole IIMA community. "A little apprehension in the beginning quickly morphed into undying energy thanks to the incessant encouragement from the ever-existing crowd by cheering, singing along, clapping and occasional dancing", he said, thanking all the observers.
Sports committee of IIMA, to promote exercise on campus, arranged for cycling on two treadmills right beside the main event, and students enthusiastically took turns to cycle all along. This effort was also attempted to support and energize the performers, especially Bhushan.
It was also a pretty unusual sight to see large population of professors showing equal enthusiasm at the event. One of the professors thanked Bhushan for attempting the record with such great energy and positively hoped for more of them to come from the students. The Armed Forces Programme (AFP) students also garnered special acknowledgement from Bhushan with their encouraging presence all through the record spanning over the weekend.
The two days took a festive mood in IIMA, and the event culminated with shouts, cheers and fireworks. With the navy band concert happened only a fortnight ago, the continual musical events at IIMA are also encouraging the culture of spirited music, with more students taking up various instrumental learning.
Bhushan, a PGP-ABM student graduating this year from the batch of 2014, is excitedly looking forward to join his band in Mumbai and is positive of having more fun with his passion.
