"IIM Kozhikode Wraps Up 4th Edition of Globalizing Indian Thought Conclave, Unveiling India's Potential on the Global Stage"

Conclave deliberates on Indian Knowledge Systems and re-discovering ways of showcasing the success of India’s soft-power approach





Mysore, 16 Dec 2023:IIM Kozhikode successfully concluded the three-day 4th Edition of the 'Globalizing Indian Thought' International Conclave held in Mysore from December 14 to December 16, 2023. This distinctive conclave focused on "Indian Knowledge Systems, Culture, and Management" and marked the first time it took place outside IIM Kozhikode's home turf. The event provided a unique platform for scholars, practitioners, and policymakers to exchange ideas and insights on enhancing management and leadership in India while celebrating and glorifying the Indian ethos.



Git 2023 featured 148 abstract submissions, with 106 papers selected for review. Ultimately, 90 papers were accepted, and 73 were presented during the three-day event. Over the course of the three-day conclave, academicians, researchers, diplomats and students of close to 20 countries participated in this international conclave.



Distinguished dignitaries such as Mr. Sanjeev Sanyal, Member of the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council; Mr. Kinji Saito, Director & Senior Managing Officer at Suzuki Motor Corporation; Mr. Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, Founder, MD & CEO of Bandhan Bank; Dr.Tessy Thomas, Former DG Aeronautical Systems; and Mr. Vineet Jain, MD – Bennett & Coleman Ltd graced the occasion.



The event also featured an engaging panel discussion on "India’s Moment In The Sun - Strategic Adjustments For A Rapidly Changing World." The panel, comprising Lt. Gen. Raj Shukla, PVSM, YSM, SM (Retd.); Member, Union Public Service Commission, New Delhi; Mr. DambajavynGanbold, Designate Ambassador, Embassy of Mongolia, and Mr. Ernest Nana Adjei, Minister-Counsellor of Political & Economic at Ghana High Commission, New Delhi. The Ambassador-designate of Mongolia quoted the example of the impressive growth of China and emphasized that there are many lessons to learn from the neighbour.



Earlier during the course of the Conclave,Mr. Sanjeev Sanyal, Member of the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council, Government of India had emphasized on the transformative journey of India and added, “Now, in the present era, let us harness the power of Indian thought not just as a national treasure but as a global norm. Envision a future where global certifications and ratings, led by Indian companies, set a standard for wisdom and innovation. As we take pride in our historical economic prominence, let us shape a future where Indian thought becomes a guiding light on the global stage, influencing norms and inspiring innovative solutions worldwide."



Dr.Tessy Thomas, renowned as the Missile Woman of India at ISRO, shared her experiences in developing indigenous systems, specifically the 'Agni class of missiles' with a solid propeller system. Emphasizing the importance of leadership in a multidisciplinary engineering field like aeronautics, she highlighted the need for effective time management and a sense of responsibility in guiding teams.



Mr. Chandra Shekhar Ghosh, Founder, MD & CEO of Bandhan Bank, envisioned India's development through a dedicated commitment to women, rural development, and the upliftment of marginalized sections, considering them as crucial pillars for the country's growth. He predicted that an increase in per capita income would lead to higher spending on education and health in India. Ghosh recognized the foundational importance of financial inclusion and literacy, aiming to make India a global case study.



As the conclave concluded, Prof.Debashis Chatterjee, Director, IIM Kozhikode, emphasized that the event not only reflected the institutional mission but also set the stage for IIMK's ambition to be among the world's foremost thought schools. He said, “India’s outstanding macro-economic, demographic, and social indicators quite clearly underline that this is our moment to respond, to arrive on the global stage. In that sense, this conclave is also a great tribute to the triumphs and tribulations of Indians vying for their rightful place in the world."



Prof. Chatterjee's insights on the unique human-centric perspective, divergent from the West's systems-centric view, underscored the significant role it plays in India's business achievements.



The closing day of GIT 2023 was also witness to a unique panel discussion on 'Globalizing Indian Festivals' and the discussion gave deep insights to the participants on the economy, joy, and inter-relationships that have bonded humanity together over Festivals spanning across centuries.



In the spirit of rising to our fullest potential, this event has been a testament to the value and vibrancy of India's soft power, a force yet to fully manifest. With close to research papers, technical sessions, research paper workshops, and panel discussions, we've woven a tapestry of ideas that propels India to once again command attention on the global stage. As the curtains draw on this convention, let us carry forth the spirit of Globalizing Indian Thought and propel our nation's narrative to new heights on the world stage.
