IIM Indore celebrates its 13th annual convocation ceremony with Mr. K.V Kamath as the Chief Guest

31st March, 2012 saw the 13th annual convocation ceremony of Indian Institute of Management Indore. The Chairman of Infosys, Mr K.V Kamath was the Chief Guest for the event. The entire ceremony was streamed live on the Institute’s website.

The 13th batch of the institute followed more than a decade old tradition of walking down the hallowed precincts of the Institute toward the convocation lawn along with the Mr. K V Kamath along with the board members of the IIM-Indore society and faculty members of the institute.

During the convocation ceremony, five FPM participants were conferred title of Fellow of IIM Indore, 433 PGP were conferred the Post Graduate Diploma in Management and 39 EPGP participants were conferred the Executive Post Graduate Diploma in Management during the convocation. IIM-I chairman Mr LN Jhunjhunwala presented the titles and diplomas to the participants. Mr K V Kamath awarded the medals for Academic Excellence to the participants.

Addressing the participants, Mr Kamath spoke about the exciting future that awaited the graduating class in the growing India. He observed that young leaders in an interconnected world must be sensitive to the priorities that need to be in focus for India’s potential to translate to reality. He also mentioned that the Government’s Unique Identification (UID) number project will be a path-breaking effort towards improving financial inclusion.

Dr N. Ravichandran, the Director of IIM-Indore congratulated the participants for their achievements during the course of these two years and emphasised the significance of managing oneself in the personal and professional life. He advised the graduating batch to perform the duties with the highest level of integrity and passion.

The pre-convocation ceremony held on 30th March was attended by distinguished guests Shri G. Narayana, Chairman Emeritus, Excel Industries Limited, Professor Pradyumana W. Khokle, Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, among many others. Professor Pradyumana W. Khokle, the first faculty member of IIM Indore in his address observed that the first batch of IIM Indore was of 45 students and the institute has grown at a phenomenal pace and has reached a batch size of 450 in a short span of time. Shri Narayana stressed upon the need for inspirational leadership to achieve outstanding success. He said that the inspirational leadership can transform the team into leadership team which shines like a sun spreading light in all directions.

This was followed by a popular Hindi play The Prophet and the Poet which is based on the exchange of letters and articles between Mahatma Gandhi and Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore over about 25 years with the freedom movement as the backdrop. The exchange from actual correspondence is interspersed with imaginary dialogue, but based on historical facts.

An exotic dinner arranged in the lawns of the Institute marked an end to the two-day long event.
