IIM Calcutta Organises International Marketing Conference, MARCON 2012 with conference theme on "Sus

IIM Calcutta campus, Kolkata, December 24, 2012:Indian Institute of Management Calcutta is organizing the Second International Marketing Conference MARCON 2012 during December 28, 29, and 30, 2012 at IIM Calcutta. The theme of the conference is Sustainability, and Marketing to Socially Connected Consumers. The conference aims to bring together thought-leaders and practitioners, from marketing and other social sciences to facilitate such a dialogue that would contribute to the theory and practice of marketing.

MARCON 2012 organizing committee consisting of Profs Prashant Mishra, Krishanu Rakshit, Ramendra Singh, Suren Sista, and Ritu Mehta received more than 225 papers from more than 10 countries. Out of these, more than 150 papers were selected by a team of reviewers that would be presented on the broad theme of the conference across 20 tracks, during the three days of the conference. The presenters come from more than 70 different B-Schools and Universities.

The conference starts at 2 pm in IIM Calcutta’s auditorium with welcoming academic researchers, and industry delegates to IIM Calcutta campus. Participants would travel from countries such as USA, UK, Bangladesh, Turkey, and Iran to attend MARCON 2012. On the first day, in the inaugural ceremony, there would be a welcome address by the director of IIM Calcutta, Prof Shekhar Chaudhuri, which would be followed by a keynote address by Prof V.Kumar from Georgia State University, followed by Panel Discussion on ”Sustainability and the Changing Role of Marketing in Organizations”. The panelists include Prof V Kumar, Professor of Marketing, Robinson College of Business, Georgia State University, Chandradeep Mitra, CEO, PipalMajik, and Meeta Singh, Global Director Sustainability - S.Asia, North Asia, S.East Asia, & ANZ, Hindustan Unilever Limited. On the second day, i.e., December 29, there is another panel discussion on “Markets and Society: Charting a New Role of Customers in Marketing”. The panelists include Prof Naresh Malhotra, Regents’ Professor Emeritus, College of Management, Georgia Tech University, Brig. Rajiv Williams, Corporate Head (CSR), Jindal Stainless Limited, & Convener, Global Compact (India), and Osama Manzar, Founder, Digital Empowerment Foundation. On the third and final day, there is workshop led by Prof Naresh Malhotra on “General Approach to Theory Development and Testing and How to publish in a Top Journal”

The conference formally ends on December 30th with a valedictory function, followed by lunch.
