IIM Calcutta: Experiential Marketing at Mandi’ 2011

Experiential Marketing Club of IIM Calcutta – Team Census – organized a marketing fair-cum-competition ‘Mandi’ at the Joka campus on Sunday, 25th September 2011. The event saw 8 teams competing against each other by putting up food and game stalls, and trying to attract customers and come out tops by earning the maximum profit.

The stalls ranged from selling sweets, mocktails and other snacks to involving people in card, dice and other fun games. The evening fair was preceded by a 3-day long promotional window where the teams used posters, banners, persuasion tactics and online media to promote their products in various innovative ways. Product innovation along with promotional strategy formed a component of the evaluation along with the profits earned on the final day.

Teams composed of both second year and first year students claimed that the experience of actually working within a budget and making sales amidst competition proved to be a great supplement to the marketing theory they learn in their classrooms.
