IIM-A Media Cell successfully conducts first edition of FacConnect

Ahmedabad, August 3 : The Media Cell of IIM Ahmedabad on Saturday successfully conducted the first edition of 'FacConnect'– its unique social media outreach initiative launched last month. The event, designed around providing interested candidates an opportunity to interact with reputed IIM A faculty members via the Google Hangout platform, saw five selected participants from various parts of the country join Prof. Dheeraj Sharma, faculty member from the Marketing area of IIM Ahmedabad in an interactive session.

The registration for the first round of FacConnect, which closed on 24th July, saw more than 500 people showing interest in being a part of this unique initiative. Consequently, the registered candidates were sent an online form via email requiring them to submit answers to a few questions based on which they would be judged. After an exhaustive evaluation process conducted by the Media Cell with inputs from the concerned faculty member, five finalists were chosen - ShivamGoel, Mayank Shah, Aishwarya Ramesh, VailopillyRavindran,Arun Prasad and AnkurBegwani - who would be interacting with Prof. Sharma on 3rd August via Google Hangout. The topic for the first session was aptly chosen to be 'Is social media changing marketing practices in the 21st century?' considering the event's focus on online outreach.

The actual Hangout held on Saturday, August 3rdat 11:30 am proceeded relatively smoothly, with minor technical issues and delays. The entire session, lasting a total of about 40 minutes including introductory comments, was an overall success with the faculty and participants engaging in intellectually stimulating discussions on a varied range of issues. Some of the aspects discussed included - determining success metrics in social media marketing, effectiveness of social media in B2B marketing, competitive (dis)advantages of social media platforms relating to small businesses, relevance of marketing professionals in the era of social media marketing etc. The interactive session involved participants posing queries to Prof. Sharma who expounded on each of the issues in great detail. The entire event was moderated by Nirvana Laha and ShantanuMaheshwari, media cell coordinators for FacConnect.
