IIBM to Groom Management Students with Corporate Gurus, Bureaucrats

Mumbai, April 18: In an attempt to groom the students for competitive corporate environment, Indira Institute of Business Management (IIBM), a leading management institute in Maharashtra, is bringing together over 10 top industry captains and eminent bureaucrats to interact with the students, at its campus on April 21.

Top corporate leaders Reji Abraham (MD, Aban Offshore Ltd), George Alexander (MD, Muthoot Group), Dr Darlie O Koshy (Director General and CEO of Apparel Training and Design Centre), and Dr Peter Philip (MD, Philips Coffee and Tea and Director of Malayala Manorama) will be among those to share the corporate expectations with the future managers, at the IIBM campus, Sanpada, Navi Mumbai.

Joining them are former Karnataka Minister and Chief Secretary Dr Alexander J, former Gujarat Chief Secretary Dr Koshy CK, former Meghalaya Chief Secretary Peter J Bazeley and former Chief Justice of Patna High Court Justice Jacob Benjamin Koshy who will impart valuable lessons on different aspects of management including business ethics and public sector.

"Our aim is to groom the students in a corporate environment and hence we have roped in some well-known names from the corporate world and the former bureaucrats in our governing council. They include four former Chief Secretaries and four brand leaders. They will make the core difference in making IIBM above the rest," said IIBM Executive Director and Secretary R T Thomas.

"One of our tasks was to structure the institute for excellence by bringing in reputed faculty on board. Top corporate leaders as visiting faculty equip the students for the tasks ahead and improve the employability by sharing the corporate expectations," pointed out Chief Operating Officer Alexander Cherian with over 20 years of top management experience.

"Through our programme 'Beyond the Syllabus', we plugged in the gap we felt in curriculum compared to the IIMs. The faculty and facilities now match with the best in management education," he said.

Another initiative by the institute is the Career Development Programme to make the fundamentals stronger for the students. The focus is on improving general knowledge, mathematical skills, reasoning, grammar and English vocabulary.

"A student attends at least 11 simulated interviews during one year and programme has yielded results in the placement sector. Last year, the placement was 95% percent with MNCs coming to the campus. The remaining 5 percent opted out to pursue their own family businesses," said to Mr Alexander.

"The strong team of corporate leaders in the governing council itself give an advantage to the institute as far as practical exposures of the students are concerned," pointed out Trust member and architect K Thomas.

IIBM, emerging as a leading institute in Maharashtra, was established in 2008 by Vishweshwar Education Society (VES), a trust managed by the Mumbai Diocese of Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church of India. The institute offers two-year Masters in Management Studies (MMS), affiliated to the University of Mumbai.
