Do you think any Hindu leaders, BJP, RSS, VHP, Bajrang Dal would stand up and openly threaten in the media that Delhi -- and the whole country -- would burn if Santosh is hanged?

Do you think sundry NGOs, Nooranis, skull-capped Mullahs, Teestas, JNU intellectual gang, the IPS cadre and the assorted auto-rickshawala in Delhi would be bothered if Santosh were hanged?
I doubt it!
Do you think lawyer community would stand up and object that the whole legal procedure to hang Santosh was faulty and he should have been pardoned because he didn’t get Ram Jethmalani to defend him?
I doubt it!
Do you think the media would publish photographs of Santosh’s wife and his child to garner sympathy for him?

Do you think pressure would be applied on Prez Abdul Kalam to pardon him or give him clemency, in case Supreme Court upholds his death sentence?

Do you think aspersions would be cast on the Additional Sessions Judge, GP Thareja, who had said, “Though I know he is the man who committed the crime, I acquit him giving him the benefit of doubt”?

Do you think anyone in the judiciary would be held accountable? Remember, CBI had filed its appeal challenging the courts verdict in the Delhi High Court in 2000, since then seven years have passed without a single hearing of the case? Wouldn’t someone say that this is a shame for the Indian Judiciary?

Do you think any head would roll in Delhi Police and CBI, who are now taking credit for the death sentence, for their shoddy work and their clear attempt to save Santosh just because his father is from IPS? (Remember, the judge also went on record saying, “ The CBI in the matter of DNA evidence has not acted fairly. It tampered with the evidence of clothes of the deceased and also the blood sample of the accused. It even fabricated the documentary evidence and also the Malkhana Register of the CBI as is clear from the discrepancies.”)

So, the crux of the matter is this: if you attack, rape and kill an innocent girl, no one is going to lose his/her sleep whether you’re hanged or sent to life imprisonment, for then, justice would have been done at last!
However, if you attack the seat of democracy, constitution and law of India, rape Mother India and kill many innocent police personnel on duty, the conscience of every ‘secular’ section of the country is stirred.
And, if you happen to be a separatist Kashmiri, a terrorist, an unrepentant killer and most importantly, a Muslim, everyone would try to prove their secular credentials by saying that you deserve to appeal to the Prez and you should be given clemency, if not pardoned altogether.
After all, India’s credentials as a democracy, a secular country, building serious Confidence Building Measures with Pakistan, peace in Kashmir and general calm in the whole country depends entirely on whether Hindu India hangs Muslim Afzal or not.
