Venkatachalam, (1988), brought out source of the important features
of the ESI Amendment Act of 1989. The amendments made in the Act and the proposed
rates would bring a lot of hardship to the employees who are receiving substantially
better benefits from their employers compared to the benefits offered under the ESI Act.
This article pointed out that the working of the ESI Corporation had come up a lot of
criticism, as the medical facilities provided by the corporation were found far from
adequate due to poor management of the hospitals and dispensaries.
Bhangoo, (1955), examines industrial relations in Cotton Textile
Industry. Attention has been paid on exploring the nature and extent of industrial
disputes, settlement machinery, working conditions and welfare facilities. He concludes
that low wages and bonus, poor working conditions and welfare facilities continue to be
the most important factors responsible for industrial disputes.
Goyal, (1995), examined labour welfare and job satisfaction in
Cotton Textile Industry in Punjab. The objective of the study was to find the relationship
between labour welfare measures and job satisfaction. She concludes that there exists a
positive relationship between various labour welfare measures and job satisfaction.
The Committee on labour welfare (1966-69) set up by the
Government of India under the chairmanship of R.K. Malviya reviewed at length the
functioning of various statutory and non-statutory welfare schemes in industrial
establishments, both in public and private sector, including mines, plantations and
railways etc., The National commission on labour (1966-69) also covered several aspects
of welfare activities in different establishments and made useful suggestions for
improvement.
The labour investigation committee agreed with the observations of
Sethu that “vast majority of industrialist in India still regard welfare work as a barren
liability rather than a wise investment” and observed that on the whole, it may be stated
that employers who take most indifferent attitude towards welfare work and say that no
rest shelter are provided as the whole premises belong to the workers themselves, no
latrines are provided because they are not likely to make use of such facilities and so on,
constitute the majority.
Pramod verma made a survey in 1981 on need based labour welfare.
This survey was concerned with several facts of the workers perception and workers
behaviour. This survey sought to enquire into the perception of working class about
employers and trade unions. It also made an attempt to review the actual living conditions
of working class and social aspects of the workers. The final part of the survey related to
the perceived needs of the workers.
In the year 1984 Vijayaragavan conducted a study on the opinion of
workers towards the welfare facilities in Rukmini mills, Silaiman. This study analyses
the obstacles the hinder the implementation of welfare programmes and measures the
general attitude of the workers about these programmes. Further it reveals the fact that
implementation of welfare programmes is one of the important factors for higher
productivity, reduction of absenteeism and better industrial relations.
In her work, titled, „Social Welfare in India?, Sumitra Gupta has
stressed the need for good labour welfare schemes for maintaining a proper relationship
between employer and employee. In her study titled “Attitude of Employers towards
Welfare Schemes in India Cements Limited”. Kumari has analyzed the level of
satisfaction of the workers regarding the welfare facilities provided to them.
P. Verma, in the year 1981 made a survey on Need Based Labour
Welfare. In the survey an attempt was made to enquire into the perception of working
class about employers and trade unions. K. Saraswathi, has made an attempt to study the
working conditions of employees in Cheran Transport Corporation Limited, Coimbatore.
S. Vijayalakshmi, has studied the working and living conditions of
labour in Fire Works Industry in Sivakasi. She has stated that required welfare measures
are provided to the labourers working in the Fire Works Industry.
B. Vaijeyanthi has studied labour welfare measures in Madura Coats
form 1981 to 1986. She has assessed the impact of labour welfare measures on the
performance of the company.

LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

? The survey is subjected to the bias and prejudices of the respondents
? Hence 100% accuracy can?t be assured
? The researcher was carried out in a short span of time, where in the researcher could
not widen the study.
? The study could not be generalized due to the fact that researcher adapted personal
interview method.

SCOPE OF THE STUDY

? To identify the employees level of satisfaction upon that job.
? This study is helpful to that organization for conducting further research
? It is helpful to identify the employer?s level of satisfaction towards welfare measure.
? This study is helpful to the organization for identifying the area of dissatisfaction of
job of the employees.
? This study helps to make a managerial decision to the company.
