A thread on the behalf of my friend:
I hope somebody could offer me some advice on how to approach a potential problem with two members of the team I have inherited in my appointment at a new company which I am due to start on April 11.
I have come in to the organisation into a newly created role as Supply Chain Manager, and the previous head of the department who was employed as Purchasing Manager and who was originally retiring has now decided to stay and will I am told be a member of my team but play a more junior role as a Senior Buyer.
To further complicate matters the previous number two in the department under the Purchasing Manager will I am told stay as number 2 under myself which will push the previous Purchasing Manager from running the team to reporting under myself and the number 2. The number two apparently applied for my Supply Chain Manager role but did not get it,although he does initially seem like he will work with me from our meeting.
Hope this all makes sense so far?
My dilemma is what approach do I take in managing and working with these two guys especially the previous Purchasing Manager whom I sense from our communications so far will find it difficult to let go.
Both the Purchasing Manager as was and the number 2 have been at the company many years and are older than me.
Any tips so I can start off on a positive footing and win the support of these two?
