How far should schools get involved?

Recently the news reported some cheerleaders sent some nude photos of themselves via their cellphones to their boyfriends. The school suspended the girls from the squad and now the parents are suing the school. One of the photos was apparently taken 3 years ago.

Has the school crossed the line with activating a suspension? Should the receivers of the photos, which happen to be on the school football team receive some type of punishment also? One of the girls' attorney is exclaiming this should be the case. Or are the parents over reacting? Is this a personal issue which should have been dealt with the family members only?

Seems to me I remember back in the dinosaur days of when I went to school, if you were on a school sports team and misbehaved in public you could be suspended. Not sure if that still stands true today or not. Unless of course perhaps if you are misbehaving on school grounds.

Schools will never completely replace community, family and religion in developing good citizens. However, they can demand fundamental ethical understanding, the same way we demand that students learn to read and write well enough to vote, work and live. In addition, it is in schools' bailiwick to address the specific developmental, cognitive and behavioral processes involved in moral decision-making.

Under certain circumstances the school can get involved. Usually it doesn't matter whether the fight takes place during or after school, or even if it takes place near or far away from the school. Generally it all comes down to whether the students are wearing their own clothes or the school uniform.

For example: there have been two fights at school this year involving just my year group. Both took place right after school, outside the grounds - the two boys who fought the first time and the two girls who fought the second time all got a three day suspension because they were wearing the school uniform. Not because they were anywhere near the school.

Schools have their own responsibility , but at the same , some issues need to be dealt by student's parents of family, as it has been seen that family would keep the matter but schools sensationalize the entire news everywhere which further adds to the student's embarassment and loss of self confidence in later years of his/her life.
