City University of Hong Kong
Why CityU?
A Dynamic, Fast Expanding and Energetic University
Since its establishment in 1984, City University has grown into one of Asia-Pacific’s most reputable institutions in higher education, with around 25,000 students enrolled in programmes representing a variety of interest included in the Faculties of Business; Humanities and Social Sciences; and Science and Engineering; the Schools of Creative Media; Law; Graduate Studies; and Continuing and Professional Education; and the Community College of City University.
CityU ranks among the best 150 universities worldwide and its social sciences, science and engineering and business departments/programmes have been ranked the top 100 in the world by the Times Higher Education Supplement in U.K. According to the School of Management of the University of Texas at Dallas, U.S.A., CityU’s Faculty of Business ranks among the top 100 business schools in the world and the top 5 in the Asia-Pacific region and the top 15 outside North America. All these signify the growing international standing of the University.
Preparing Students for a Globalized World
Putting the needs and talents of the students at the fore, the University fosters an environment conducive to the development of a well-rounded individual — one who exhibits character and strength as well as intelligence, adaptability, out-of-the-box thinking and an international
perspective. While conventional classroom learning is important to the syllabus, emphasis is also placed on the extra-curricular development of students through work placement schemes, internships, exchanges, interests
clubs, and more.
Advancing Knowledge Frontiers for a Better World
Research is also a key part of our success. Not only does research ensure that classroom material is current and cutting edge, it aims to revolutionize society at large. CityU’s applied research teams seek to establish international competitiveness, nurture potential new areas of development and apply successful results to the betterment of the world around us. To this end, the University has set up five University Research Centres, eight Faculty Research Centres and four Applied Strategic Development Centres in the University campus. Besides, three Applied R & D Centres have been established in the Pearl River Delta Region too.
Embracing the merits of a multicultural environment, CityU has sought to establish links with high-calibre institutions on the mainland and overseas. Through exchange programmes for both faculty and students, a cultural dialogue between CityU and the world, sharing ideas and information for the benefit of all involved, is formed.
Internationally Recognized University Education
The applied research and professional teaching of CityU have been well recognized in the international higher education community. CityU has been listed among the top 150 universities in the world by The Times in U.K. and its social sciences, science, engineering and business programmes are also ranked within the top 100 since 2004. Its ranking in Greater China is also very impressive. It has been ranked one of the top 10 universities in Greater China by Shanghai Jiao Tong University since 2003.
