Hon’ble Governer of Odisha Visits XIMB Campus[/b]

Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB), in keeping with its tradition of academic excellence and innovation, inaugurated its new Post Graduate Programme in Banking and Financial Services today. Gracing the occasion with his presence as the Chief Guest was His Excellency, Hon’ble Governor of Odisha, Shri Muralidhar Chandrakant Bhandare. He was welcomed warmly by Father P.T. Joseph, S.J., Director, XIMB, who described this programme, held under the aegis of the Centre for Banking and Insurance, XIMB, and the first of its kind in Odisha, as aimed at building managers for the banking and financial services sector in India, in view of the growing significance of both these domains as a result of globalization and financial reforms.
The recent emergence of financial conglomerates creates a need for qualified manpower to meet the multifaceted requirements of the financial services sector. This programme aims to provide the right blend of knowledge and skills in Banking and other non-banking Financial services such as Mutual Funds, Leasing, Insurance, Venture Capital Funds, Credit Rating, Factoring, Equity Analysis, etc. so that students can respond to the emerging business dymanics in the sector. Emphasis would be on the applications of the theoretical constructs in real life business situation through case studies, group work, presentations, role play, assignments, industry visits, project work and internship. With this eleven month programme with an intake of 90 students, XIMB continues to work towards its commitment towards the development of quality education and managerial talent in the state of Odisha.
The Governor, while addressing the students, inspired them to work hard towards achieving their goals, as well as to give back in equal measure to the society, state and the nation, while at the same time leading a balanced life between work and other activities. He also spoke emphatically on the need for such courses in Orissa, as they are still in their nascent stage and how investing in the services sector would, to a great extent, solve the problem of unemployment.
The gathering was also addressed by Mr. B. K. Bhoi, Regional Director, RBI- Bhubaneswar, who congratulated XIMB on bringing forward “the right kind of academic design at the right time” and spoke about the great scope of growth and development in the banking sector, urging the students to sharpen their application skills, and “work towards development at the bottom of the pyramid, for that is where their mettle would be put to the acid test”.
Mr. P.K. Das, General Manager (Personal Banking), IDBI- Mumbai, while addressing the students, said the banking and financial sector had become one of the biggest providers of quality employment , and urged the students to develop their analytical skills, and become managers who could lead from the front, and balance the society’s needs at large.
The guests were then presented with mementos by the Prof. Subhajyoti Ray, Dean (Academics), with Prof. Asit Mohanty, Programme Co-ordinator, PGPBFS, officially concluding the session with a vote of thanks. [/i][/b][/i][/b]
