Homework should be banned?

I don't know anything about pedagogy or didactic method, but speaking as a college student, the idea of not assigning homework seems ludicrous. Students need to be able to apply what they've learned on their own, and need to have the opportunity to synthesize and develop their understanding of the material. Classroom time should be spent lecturing and teaching method.

This strikes me as a good way to maximize the efficiency of the students' access to the teacher while providing students the opportunity to process and understand the material on their own.

I believe if homework is banned, education and learning process would suffer.

As an Engg. student I think homework should be banned,its not necessary in today's education era.As life becoming more complex and students already have lot of pressure due to studies,homework is useless nd wastage of time

For the understanding the basics and practicality of the subject, some or the other homework/assignment should be given to the student.

I don't think homework can make student learn. If he really want to study then he will study himself/herself. Homework should be banned.

By learning , i mean understanding of the subject to its depth here, and that would only come once a student goes over its topic again, giving homework makes it much easier to go over things!

I get far too much homework and it's compromising the integrity of my style! I have not time for myself anymore

I think it shouldn't be 'banned' but it should be decreased. In some areas, students are suffering from the overloaded homework because they don't get enough time to complete their work so that they have to decrease their amount of sleeping. But that harms students' health and gives them stress as well.
