Since from last many years we know group discussion is the integral part of campus placement. Do you think it should be??

need your opinions...
 
The same question i was asking my self & trying hard to find out the answer. After lots of talking & discussion i came to conclusion that GD is process to check the person ability to convince the person with use of his skill & knowledge. No matter how good you speak English or how in-depth you know about topic. Its all depend upon how well you can present it which make it a integral part of selection for any company process.
 
Are students deprived of choosing the subject/course of their choice? Do parents take control of a student's mind, career and interests?
 
I respect your opinion puneet.. but beg to differ on that. Group discussions can be considered important but not integral when it comes to campus recruitment. Important because of what you said but not integral because sometimes the mix of the group can play a spoil sport jeopardizing the whole group sometimes. More often the panel may never get to assimilate the bombardment of data and information that happens in a GD if the same is not moderated properly.
Even the top IIMs have done away with the process recently because of some fundamental fallacies present in the process.
 
I agree from puneet.....Group discussion is a part of interview process. Group discussion topics are mostly based on current affairs.

First of all i would like to mention that group discussion is not the process of selection its a process of elimination. 100,200,300...students sit for placement, so it is not possible to take interview of each and every candidates. and also in 8-12 min of GD you are able to check too many qualities like:
Communication skills
Body language
How you behave in a group?
How you convince other?
Are you listening to others or just putting up your points?
Leadership skill etc
 
Tushar...Selection and recruitment are the two phases of HR..and elimination happens in both...among the whole chances to select the right candidate only...is a hard task and GD supports to find that....
In this role of not only the candidate used to test but also of the interviewer that to whom they select for the position...and the points u mentioned are necessary for GD.:SugarwareZ-031:
 
GD is a method through which a company check how good a person will be capable to work with a team. As we know that we have to work in an team in any company, so it is extremely important to find out whether the applicant would be capable of mix with other members of his team. So i would say it is important for the selection process.
