It has been a momentous journey for VNIT. From Government College of Engineering (1960) to Visvesvaraya Regional college of Engineering (1963) to Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (2003). It has always been the story of an institution that excelled itself in the field of engineering education. The institution in last 50 years has transformed more than 15000 young Students to thetorch bearers of excellence in the field of technology and engineering.
The story of VNIT’s Success is not complete without its Alumni. To renew the relationship between institute and past student the occasion of Golden Jubilee celebration is most appropriate. A Grand Golden Jubilee Alumni Reunion took place on 25th and 26th Dec 2010 at Nagpur, VNIT campus. This reunion brought together past students of the institute from all batches and all branches.
With lots of alumni’s and students working round the clock, the event was a huge success. It was an event of an unimaginable magnitude and so unique that no event could reach it heights for years to come. With over 20+ alumni and 50+ student volunteers working in various committees, the alumni were greeted with a cheerful and hospitable environment wherever they went.
The first day kick started with the registration of the alumni. With more than 600 online registrations, the on the spot registrations reached more than 400 giving a grand total of more than 1000 alumni’s in attendance and all the batches were represented. This was followed by a campus tour for the spouses and families of the alumni in order to show them the change in their beloved
campus.
This was then followed by an extremely grand lunch and followed by extremely formal and extravagant inaugural function. The function included a formal speech by the in-charge Director Dr. C.S. Moghe. An interesting part of the function was the felicitation of all the principals and directors of VRCE-VNIT. It was a great gesture by the alumni to their teachers who were responsible for grooming them into more responsible citizens. The memento and souvenir was also unveiled. The memento was a very interesting sculpture of the zero mile. Members of the organizing committee came up on the dais and gave their speeches. Most importantly, many distinguished alumni’s were felicitated by the institution for their excellence.
The evening was spent at the VCA ground Jamtha, where a gala cultural and musical function was organised. With lots of socializing, it was indeed a memorable moment for all the alumni.
An interesting and informal aspect of the meet was the visit to Chandrama by the alumni at night . Many old friends came together and relived their old memorable days. Many shared their experiences and college life with the present students.
The second day had a more industry oriented approach with all the alumni divided into various sectors like IT, Reality & Infrastructure, Power & Energy, Manufacturing, Architecture, R&D etc. here all the alumni interacted with each other and tried to find out new avenues as to how they could give back to their institution. This was then followed by lunch and a brief conclusion session. All the alumni bid farewell to their friends promising to stay in touch and most importantly be more active
and help increase institute industry interaction and alumni student interaction.
