while surfing on internet , i cam across an interesting article (interview Session with GMAT topper) related to 'GMAT success stories'. so i decided to share some Q&A from the interview.

Q: Did you have a plan for how to study? How did you formulate the plan?

A: What I realized after my experience is that the test taker has to understand how the GMAT test makers have structured the test, and the overall aim. I learned that you have to study smart, rather than study a lot. For instance, the MBA degree is to mold future CEOs and executive managers. Managers need to be able to differentiate and identify what is important. I broke down my study time by looking for patterns in the material that I studied and then applied it in a straightforward manner to future questions that were similar. I tried to truly understand the basic concepts, rather than memorize particular formulas.

Q: Did you study alone or with a group?

A: Started with a group, but then moved to self study. You have to evaluate the level and aspirations of the other group members. “Learning teams” are helpful because if you can teach the concepts to other members, then you can get the right answer on the actual test. Discussion about concepts together is helpful when you are not as familiar with the materials. Fine tune at the end on an individual basis.

Q: When did you schedule your GMAT? Some people set their test date before they start studying, as a way to set a final “deadline” for studying. Others decide to schedule their appointment only after they feel ready. What is your perspective?

A: Mock test reaches your target score, schedule your test.

Q: Did you incorporate online resources with print materials?

A: I only sought out Official GMAC approved materials from MBA.com and used those for my GMAT prep. I didn’t want to use materials that were not approved. Also, I think it is better to stick to the Pearson materials which were printed after the 11th edition.

Q: Approximately how many practice questions did you do for each section?

A: Finished all of the official guide questions and mock tests.
