Over Rs 9 lakhs on offer for a sustainable future – IIMK’s fest Backwaters 2011 out to make a difference
IIM Kozhikode in association with its title sponsor, Madhyamam daily, has launched a number of events for its annual management fest, Backwaters 2011 to be held from 18-20th November,2011.
Apart from a number of events under every vertical like Finance,Marketing,HR,IT,Strategy and Operations, Backwaters has 3 theme and 5 flagship events. Going by its theme of People,Planet,Profit-an emphasis on the Triple Bottom Line, most events are based on the same.The challenges faced by enterprises today are not just about increasing profit, but of growing sustainably. This makes the theme
contextually relevant.
The most popular event has traditionally been ITC Avatar-the hunt for the complete CEO, which is a flagship event. Being by invitation-only, it is an extremely prestigious event where the top 19 B- schools of the country fight it out in the hunt for the next complete CEO and for the prize money of Rs 1 lakh.
A first time flagship event, Whistle Podu, has already generated a lot of curiosity and excitement. In association with Chennai Super Kings, the event is about branding and understanding that the highly successful IPL has a huge role for innovation and requires good management.
Aligned to the theme of sustainability, another first time event is Rural Nirmaan in association with NABARD.As the leaders of tomorrow, this event gives budding managers a chance to make a difference at the grassroot level. Participants get to formulate credit policies for rural India and address issues like farmer suicides and inefficient policy implementation.
Apart from the flagship B-plan competition, White Knight, there is also Bizzathalon, the business quiz which is open for corporate teams.
Shiksha , a one-of-its-kind initiative of IIM Kozhikode, is a workshop and counselling session for students of undergraduate and post-graduate colleges in Kerala to be held on 18th and 19th November. Some other main attractions at Backwaters ’11 include a performance by the Entertainment
Engineers- specialists in the genre of standup comedies.
This year, IIMK Backwaters will also witness a first-of-its kind Corporate Dinner which would serve as an opportunity for business personalities in the region to interact and network with the IIM Kozhikode community. The Corporate Dinner shall provide an opportunity for these industry bigwigs to share their experiences and leverage the human capital and knowledge base of IIM Kozhikode to generate more value for their businesses while also providing the IIMK community insights into running successful
businesses.
