Rahul and Priyanka have the makings of a perfect couple and they have decided to take the plunge, but before the date can be set and invitations sent out, there is still one piece that needs to fit.
Theirs is the world of well-planned marriages, for they don't want medical complications to come in the way of a healthy married life. So, Rahul and Priyanka will go to a clinic and get some tests done to avoid any rude shocks in the future.
After consulting a doctor, the duo decides that the health kundli might be their best option.
The health kundli is a set of tests, which will determine Rahul and Priyanka's medical compatibility.
"You know how parents are. We hadn't thought about having children and they were already talking about grandchildren. They said we should get these tests done, so when we decide to have children there won't be any complications," says Rahul.
The first and possibly most important test in the health kundli is to see if either of them is a thalessimia carrier. If both are carriers, then there is a 50 per cent chance that their child will be born thalassemia major.
Thalassemia major is an inherited blood disorder and can only be treated with chronic blood transfusion.
In case only one person out of two is a carrier, the chances go down by 25 per cent.
This new marriage gift - a health forecast - will also test them for HIV, Hepatitis B and C and will compare their blood groups and RH factors.
But what are the options for couples like Rahul and Priyanka if they are in the red.
Says Dr Munjal, "This is not a marriage breaking tool. In case there is a problem, there are solutions to offer, but it's always better to be aware of the problem and deal with it before one has a lifetime of problems to handle."
And while the lab decided their future, Rahul and Priyanka tried to keep themselves busy with work.
Says Rahul, "Even if it's not clear I am not going to leave Priyanka. We will think of something."
Adds Priyanka, "think it was better 10 years ago when there wasn't so much technology and people just got married."
Well this particular couple was cleared of all complications. Marriages might be made in heaven, but a little bit of technology can go a long way to keep it happy.
