Change in Head of the Department
Taking the Department of Management Studies further in its quest for excellence, Prof. Sudhir K. Jain took over as the new Head of the Department from 1st September 2010. Prof. S. K. Jain is MHRD IPR Chair Professor and the Chairman of 'Economics & Entrepreneurship' group. He has also been a member of several committees set up by the Government of India such as IPR, Education Policy Committee (Ministry of HRD), National Entrepreneurship Policy Committee (Ministry of MSME), MHRD Technical Committee on WTO Matters (Ministry of HRD). Apart from pursuing the vision of the department, Prof. Jain is focused on intensifying the interaction of students with the industry and creating plethora of placement options for them. “Our selection process is on par with other IITs. We have signed MOUs with Universities in France, USA, UK and Germany to give student exchange programs a major fillip.” SUDHIR K JAIN

Currently IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Madras, and IIT Roorkee offer Programs in Management. The Department of Management Studies. IIT Delhi, has taken the onus of organizing JMET 2011.

Golden Jubilee Lecture Series - Lecture # 1
The golden jubilee lecture series kick started on 27th Sept, 2010 with a lecture from Professor M. M. Sharma, FRS (Fellow of the Royal Society), Emeritus Professor of Eminence, Institute of Chemical Technology, Mumbai. Prof. Sharma is the first engineer from India to become a Fellow of the Royal Society and has been recognized by several honors like- the S.S. Bhatnagar Prize in Engineering Sciences, the FICCI Award, the Vishwakarma Medal of the INSA, and the prestigious Leverhulme Medal of the Royal Society, apart from many others. Prof. Sharma elucidated the difference between ‘invention’ and ‘innovation’, emphasizing that technology development should be like rowing exercise i.e. synchronous collective effort rather than a relay race. He also underlined the need of another green revolution or similar technological advancements in India, to ensure a healthy economic and social growth.

Guest Lecture on Private Equity
Adding another pearl in its long thread of guest lectures and knowledge sharing sessions, DMS IIT Delhi organized an enriching session on 22nd of September 2010, which was graced by Mr. Mukul Singhal, who is the member of Private Equity firm SAIF. Mr. Mukul did his MBA from ISB Hyderabad, and is an alumnus of IIT, and has in-depth experience of the working of private equity funds, gained through his long career. He conducted the session on private equity and explained a plethora of underlying concepts and technicalities, apart from describing the modus operandi of a typical PE firm.

8th annual KPMG International Case Competition
The annual KPMG international case competition is a world class platform for students in the colleges to represent KPMG in a global arena. Students during this event will get to connect with some of our most accomplished professionals from across the globe and build their own networks. As this is an international event, students come from different countries, diverse range of academia and cultures. Students from across the world not only share their ideas and experiences with one another, they also create lifelong bonds, which makes this event truly global. Through a series of challenging case competitions, our judges will choose the team that will get to participate in the KPMG international case competition. The 4 day event takes place in April next year and is being organized in the historic and picturesque city of Istanbul, Turkey.

Deloitte - ignite Ideation Challenge 2010
Deloitte Launched Ignite 2010 challenge simultaneously at 20 premiere colleges (including DMS IIT Delhi) in India, across the categories of management, technology, arts, science, commerce and economics. The contest will run for a period of approximately two months starting mid-September, with a culmination of a grand finale at the Deloitte office campuses in early November 2010. This ideation challenge – ignite, is designed to encourage students to look into the future and simulate being innovators predicting and working through trends that will potentially impact businesses in 2015; with prizes up to U.S. $10,000 to be won.

2nd International Conference on Excellence in School Education

IIT Delhi organized the first International Conference on Excellence in School Education in December, 2009. Over 200 research papers including 50 from foreign countries (such as USA, UK, Singapore, Malaysia and Nigeria) were received for the Conference wherein 676 school owners and senior teachers participated. Participation from the MHRD, Govt. of India, Govt. of Delhi, NCERT, CBSE, CII, UNICEF, the corporate world and Embassies of a few countries added to the richness of the Conference.
