1. GOLDEN JUBILEE CELEBRATION 16TH AUGUST 2010
It was a proud moment for Delhi and India, as the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi commenced its Golden Jubilee Celebrations. The Visitor to the Institute and our Hon’ble President Smt Pratibha Devisingh Patil inaugurated the yearlong celebrations at function in the Dogra Hall on 16th August 2010. The Hon?ble Union Minister of Human Resource Development Shri Kapil Sibal was the Guest of Honour and Shri R.P. Agrawal, the Chairman, Board of Governors presided over this function. Former faculty, staff and alumni also attended inaugural event in large numbers.

2. CONFLUENCE ’10: THE IDEA SERIES
Department of Management Studies, IIT Delhi in sync with its philosophy of continuous interaction with corporate world, organized its highly anticipated annual „Confluence-The Idea series?, intended to bring together the corporate, the academia and the students in pursuit of discussing relevant and contemporary issues related to business and management.

The Confluence was started with the inaugural speech by the senior faculty member of Department of Management Studies, IIT Delhi, Prof. Ravi Shankar, which was preceded by the lighting of auspicious diya by the guests present.

The topics discussed in the confluence were “Sustainable Development: Ecology vs. Economy” and “Cloud Computing: Heralding a new business era” under the domain of operations and IT respectively.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT: ECOLOGY VS. ECONOMY
Speakers: Subir Chowdhary - Ex. VP, JCB India Ltd ArunRawal – Regional Head, Reliance Petro Chemical Hemat Mukhija – DGM, Havells Ajay Mittal – Manager Utilities, Honda Siel Cars Ashok Bajpai - G.M. Yum Restaurant The delegates discussed about the practices incorporated in their respective organizations to achieve an eco-friendly industrial model. They accentuated the 3Rs- Reuse, Reduce and Recycle as the key pillars for ecological sustainability of industrial efforts in the long terms. The discussion ended with a consensus that ecology should be seen as a subset of economy and hence the focus should shift from conservation to enhancement of the environment.

CLOUD COMPUTING: HERALDING A NEW ERA?
Speakers: Pritam Narotra - Senior Director, Dept. of IT Jogesh Ramaswamy - CTO, G4S IT services Shailesh Gupta - Global Lead-Architecture, CSC Dhiraj Garg – General Manager, IBM Sanjay Kumar - Vice President, HCL The speakers elucidated some benefits of cloud computing like effective resource utilization, faster application deployment, reduced IT infrastructure costs, huge data management with low power input, open standard, unrestricted data access, flexible scalability and simplified disaster recovery planning among others. The panel also shed lights on the myths pertaining to cloud services and informed that how inspite of such valuable features some organizations are still hesitant to espouse cloud computing services on the grounds of data security and portability concerns. All in all the confluence as desired served an ideal platform for fruitful interaction between industry bigwig and the aspiring managers of tomorrow

ALUMNI MEET
Every year DMS IIT Delhi holds Alumni Meet across the country where the alumni return to their ALMA-MATER and reconnect with their fellow batch mates. In 2010 DMS IIT Delhi started the Mumbai chapter of the alumni Meet, Memoirs Mumbai'10. It was held on 14th August at Evershine Banquets, Mumbai. The alumni meet saw a huge turn-up of distinguished alumni together with their families from the Mumbai-Pune belt. The meet saw the presence of Alumni of 17 batches from Rajneesh Rastogi of 1994 batch to Richa Gulati of 2010 batch. Other distinguished alumni present in the meet were from top positions in companies like SBI, Nomura Corps, Reliance Industry, Morgan Stanley and even CBI and RBI.

4. GUEST LECTURE SERIES
Guest lectures are an integral part of the pedagogy of DMS. Corporate head-honchos as well as doyens from the academia are invited to share their valuable insights from their rich experience about contemporary business issues, the challenges they are faced with and how they dealt with them. Some of the eminent speakers of recent past are:

Prof. Harbir Singh (Vice Dean, Wharton School of Business)
Prof. Harbir Singh is one of the distinguished alumni of IIT Delhi. During the guest lecture, Professor Singh discussed his recently authored book, “The India Way: How Indian Firms Are Revolutionizing Management” with the students.

Dr. Ashwin Rao (Executive Director Morgan Stanley Research Division)
Dr. Ashwin threw valuable insights on the changing landscape of finance industry and spoke at length about the importance of Quantitative finance in USA and other parts of the world. He emphasized that the need of the hour is to incorporate model risk in the valuation of an asset.

Mr. Mukul Singhal Member of Private Equity firm SAIF
Mr. Mukul did his MBA from ISB Hyderabad, and is an alumnus of IIT, and has in-depth experience of the working of private equity funds, gained through his long career. He conducted the session on private equity and explained a plethora of underlying concepts and technicalities, apart from describing the modus operandi of a typical PE firm.

Mr. Naveen Luthra Chief Marketing Officer, Diginatives Content Solutions Pvt. Ltd.
Mr. Naveen Luthra talked about advantages and disadvantages of online marketing; types of online marketing; types of online advertising; targeting methods; how to develop a good online advertisement; pricing of online advertisements; various trends in the industry and challenges for marketers

Mr. Abhishek Madan AGM, Jindal Steels Ltd
Mr. Madan has 15 years of experience in the field of marketing which he shared in a nutshell during the session. He explained the nitty-gritty of International marketing, elucidating the nuances of understanding global needs, beating competitions, coordinating and integrating market strategies of the organization across all countries and recognizing the constraints of international trade which could be of political or cultural nature or even economic variables like currency fluctuations.
