Pune-based Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) has sought Rs90 crore from the Centre for bringing the institute on par with IIMs and IITs.
The FTII governing council has approved the management’s proposal and it awaits approval of the Union ministry of information and broadcasting. FTII director DJ Narain told DNA that the management has plans to revitalise the institute.
“The Union information and broadcasting ministry has finalised an upgradation plan of FTII as a centre for excellence through an act of parliament and make it at par with premier institutes like IIM and IIT,” he said.
According to Narain, the institute has sought the funds to boost the infrastructure of the institute under the 12th five-year plan (2012-17). “This amount would be apart from what the FTII is allotted every financial year in the Union budget,” the director said.
