India is still a agriculture dependant country.60% of our population still depend on agri for life.On the advent of IT,agriculture has lost its sheen.It was coupled with the bleak monsoons.Even more to it,SEzz started occupying agricultural lands.We don't have state of the art technologies to boost the agriculture.Can we invite FDI in agriculture?

Pros:
====
1.Investment possible which will help to rejuvenate the sector.

2.Latest available tech can be implemented which will increase the productivity.

3.More research can be done on the genetically modified crops according to our country's monsoon needs so that we dunt loose the productivty during bleak monsoons.

Cons:
====
1.Major political opposition due to the FDI.

2.Farmer's attitude needs to be changed so that they can accept the FDI in agriculture.Farmers must be taught to use the technology for betterment

I think it is very much essential of FDI coming into agriculture , i mean cmmon yaar , india is the land of villages and almost 70% of popultaion stay in it , and from tht 70% , almost 60% money comes from agriculture , so y not go ahead and look into the wider perspective of it , rather than looking only into IT and TELECOm

we can invite in fdi for agriculture but it has its own disadvantage are we ready for the improvement . for this many years our country have not improved in agriculture technology. pouring in more money may bring some change .

also see the simple case of reliance retail though not very related to the subject. the RELIANCE RETAIL(RR) have made aggriment with the all farmers in certain districts for a reasonable price to sell all thier yeild for 5 years to RR. today the prices may be reasonable what happens the next year and the year next to that . bringing in corporate thinkers into agriculture may affect the farmers . govt must have very stringent measures to have a check on their control over the farmenrs and products

hi that was a good comment on that topic of fdi in agriculture

can you breif me how the farmers will be exploited even today they are exploited by brokers and agents . if there is going to be FDI govt will frame rules to safe guard them as usual rules ahve their loop holes i think the farmers can get better returns than they get now.

Agriculture would be transforming the growth into new heights. But we have not fully utilized this sector. Foreign Direct Investment(FDI) could be a better option provided the farmers must be educated regarding this else it would be again a political circus.

it definitaley will bring a big revolution to indain agricultrure if they introduce such a thing....i doubt weather our indian farmers are ready for such a change

I don't think this is the time goverment should allow FDI in agriculture. They need to first strengthen the Agri sector and protect the farmers

i do support the topic, but it should be limited. because, agri is mainly concentrated in rural and village areas and our govt and political ppl are very busy in increasing their bank bal than concentrating on wt best can be done for the farmers.As many of the farmers and agri labors are migrating to urban and cities, if you allow FDI's the standards of living and working will be improved and hence the profits.
