I think it suggests that everything has to faces, a coin has 2 sides, victory comes with defeat of others, light makes shadow(darkness), laughter makes our eyes wet(practically), crying pacifies us and lot more.
We can put in the context of our cities where we see lots of malls, multiplexes, lavishing buildings and all modern equipments whereas on the other hand in the same city we find slums, poverty existing;
Also it suggests about our point of view different people have different interpretations of same thing, most common example is that of a half filled glass, its about optimism and pessimism. Its up to you how you look at thing.
You can see the light given by the candle or at the shadow it makes some people think of the problem, others at the solution, its how you think which decides what kind of life you gonna have. so we can say that both light and darkness go hand in hand as in the same way in life good times and bad times are part and parcel of it.
