Asian equity markets turned mixed on Monday despite a brighter-than-expected US jobs report as investor attention turned to a key policy meeting in China.

China’s Shanghai Composite was down 0.38 percent or 8.09 points at 2,098.03.

Japan’s Nikkei gained 1.18 percent or 166.66 points at 14,253.46.

Taiwan’s Taiwan Weighted shed 0.30 percent or 24.33 points at 8,205.26.

Singapore’s Straits Times was flat at 3,177.42, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was flat at 22,727.90 and South Korea’s Seoul Composite was flat at 1,984.76.

Asian equity markets rose on Tuesday following another record close on Wall Street overnight, with focus turning to the last day of a key policy meeting in China.

China%u2019s Shanghai Composite was up 0.66 percent or 13.90 points at 2,123.37.

Hong Kong%u2019s Hang Seng was down 0.12 percent or 26.56 points at 23,043.29.

Japan%u2019s Nikkei gained 1.19 percent or 170.36 points at 14,440.20.

Singapore%u2019s Straits Times was flat at 3,187.28.

South Korea%u2019s Seoul Composite added 1.11 percent or 21.92 points at 1,999.22.

Taiwan%u2019s Taiwan Weighted rose 0.33 percent or 27.17 points at 8,209.73.

Epic Asian Markets Update

Asian share markets crept cautiously higher on Monday, encouraged both by the prospect of extended stimulus in the United States and real economic reform in China.
Singapore shares gained 0.3 percent as data showed exports beat forecasts in October.
The Bank of Japan holds its policy meeting on Wednesday and Thursday and is expected to maintain its ultra-loose policy. The BOJ has been perhaps the most aggressive of any major central bank in its asset buying, putting downward pressure on the yen in the process.
