Program in Entrepreneurship and Small Business
Management provides a solid base from which
to successfully launch her own business.
“Berkeley has a great reputation, and the certificate
fits my needs,” Shikuma explains. “It was specific to

programs were too specific, focusing on green
business or more business management or
leadership. This one was more entrepreneurship,
which I didn’t find anywhere else.”
What Our Graduates Are Saying
ANUPAM JINDAL aspires to run his own company,
a goal he’s been nurturing since childhood. A graduate
of the Certificate Program in Entrepreneurship and
Small Business Management, Jindal is using the skills
gained to make his entrepreneurial venture, a
children’s mobile app, a hit. Because the certificate
curriculum covers all areas of successfully launching a
business—finance, marketing and management—
Jindal is confident that he has the knowledge to
execute his business plan.
“I’ve learned a lot,” he says of the certificate.
“In the capstone course, I built my business plan. The
instructor had enormous experience starting up small
businesses. He was able to share his expertise in what
a business plan should look like, how to present it,
how to approach investors.”
The first graduate of the Certificate Program in
Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management,
ALLAN CHAO has much to be proud of. His
software development business, 4Acertijos, is gaining
steam, and he is finding success as a UC Berkeley
Extension instructor. His course, Introduction to Web
Technology Entrepreneurship, provides the know-how
to effectively launch a Web company and succeed in
the marketplace.
“My course is really intense,” Chao says. “Going
through the certificate has shaped the way I look at
my class—what someone would want going into it
and what they will get out of it.” Chao’s experience in
successfully launching his own startup is no doubt an
encouraging model for his students. “This has been
the best thing I’ve done,” he says of starting his own
company. “I’m doing what I love.”
