English as a medium of instruction

English should be medium of instruction because we have not allowed Hindi to grow and take centerstage despite all claims being made. As a result those who study in Hindi medium lag behind...

what do you all say...
 
That's really true.. Atleast u need to be happy u know the national language
People from southern side are facing a lot of problem due to English....So English should be made mandatory in each and every sectors....
 
It is never about making a language mandatory, we need to understand that language is a medium of communication.India is a land of rich diversity with many languages spoken. Considering that India is moving towards globalization and economic growth, a common platform like language which in this case is English is seen as a necessity.
 
Yes it has become a necessity that is why i say compulsory. just imagine a post graduate class going in full swing suddenly you find that there are few students who are showing blank faces because they are not able to understand English. now you either teach them English or your subject. at graduate or PG level it becomes so difficult to make them learn English as it was not their medium of instruction. that is why it should be made compulsory. at least that much so that they can at least be a part of the class.
 
What about a compromise? Some courses taught in English, some in Hindi. I dont think that everything should only be in English. There are other very important languages as well!

hmmm. yes nice suggestion.but corporate do not compromise. and it is difficult to say which will be taught in English and which paper in Hindi. i respect all languages as they are. i think ajust like we have central and state government. in the same way we can have a central language as English. because it is is not possible to learn all languages and as i said despite all hues and cries we don't find enough use of our 'rashtrabhasha'. Therefore, student must be well versed in English apart from his regional language.

Why compromise? Only hindi has to be taught in hindi and rest of the subjects in English.

Did you know that Mandarin is the most widely spoken language next to English. It is soon catching up in US, I won't be surprised if students start learning Mandarin as well. After all, we all are moving towards growth, improvement and globalization.

Fine...Mandarin may be catching up but in China English is catching up. Besides i am talking about survival of students who are not versed in english. in MBA exams they have to write in english.. and books on management are in english...all the standard ones..

Do I sound to be against using ENGLISH as the medium of instruction?

Of course, I do agree that English should be used for education purposes. My views about Mandarin was for discussion sake about its recent indulgence.
 
true! English should be made as the medium of instruction in all educational institutes .
but it is surprising to know that India has the second largest English speaking community after US. what difference does it make? we still have high unemployment rate.
china has 17th position , if china had better English speaking community , it could beat us.
 
i personally don't feel that there is a need to learn mandarin. what would be the reason behind Americans learning mandarin? Because their total focus is on the biggest market in the world,china. we are the second biggest market.Moreover, Chinese people are trying to improve their English language skills. if you go to any global chatrooms, you could see at least a few Chinese people trying to learn English.
They understood their need to adapt to the world.
 
China is not turning towards learning English but we are certainly depended on English, it is not that we intend to beat any economy but certainly to move towards goals.

Despite being excelled in many field, unemployment is certainly high in India.
 
English is used as international language, hence it shud be learnt..
but at same time dont forget to treat your local language too ..
 
Ya English should be the medium of instruction as with English you can survive anywhere in the world.. But to survive in India Hindi is a must language...

Depends where you live! Down south you don't really need HINDI to SURVIVE.

India is a land of many languages, regional language is vital for survival!
 
I think it is not bad if we are studying in the atmosphere where English is the language of instruction. It should be started from the primary level of school so that we may not face any problem in talking with other states peoples like south Indian etc.
