I read an article online that I posted on my blog where i talk about news and stuff like this. Well basiclly Sony has said that they will discontinue the floppy disk in 2011 due to competition from "other storage media", such as CD's and USB sticks.

What do you guys think?

yup thats a clever move from sony. when the market is bombarded with pendrives with high accesibility and more storage why do people need floppy discs which give less storage and also bigger than pen drives

Who uses 3.5-inch floppy disks anymore? No one...I think Sony has taken smart initiative. No wonder, Sony is credited with bringing the 3.5-inch format to the market. It first introduced the medium to computers way back in 1981. Since then it has become completely obsolete with the advent of small memory cards, USB drives, and to a lesser extent the non-rewritable CD and DVD standard.

At the time, a handheld storage device that could store 1.44 MB was a big deal. Now, it has about the value of a half cent piece.
