Emotional communication - Has communication become the exchange of simple emotional slogans?
Whether it's politicians communicating to the masses, bosses to workers, teachers to students, the media to the audience, has communication become an exercise in generating an emotional response?
Various studies suggest that the majority find childlike qualities are the most trustworthy and endearing. Further, that factual or intellectual communication requires to much hard thinking. Preferred is a form of communication that relates emotionally to the person or group.
Is emotional communication a form of social equity or inclusiveness. The rationale being if we communicate with everybody to the level of say a 10 year old then, in theory, we are addressing the widest possible audience. However, 10 yr olds communicate emotionally thus the intent, nature and indeed content of communication is transformed.
If emotional communication is in the ascendant, are we losing our capacity to exchange and develop complex ideas and solutions?
