Effect of cinema on Youth

Cinemas have played a crucial role in shaping the psyche of the average Indian since a long time. When it comes to learning from Cinemas i feel being at crossroads..the basic concept of a cinema is exaggeration of reality..sometimes twisting it along the way. Cinemas on one hand have strengthened the Indian culture with projections of the ideal family, ideal father, mother, brother, friend, wife, lover etc and on the other hand at many a times have led us to believe and replicate things that can be dangerous, inappropriate and sometimes downright stupid in the real world. Cinemas on one hand have given us the voice to question many social taboos, inequalities, corruption and on the other have many a times given us the courage to do all the wrong things..from smoking to the increased incidence of thefts on vehicles after the release of the movie Dhoom (True Story). Its basically upto us to understand that movies are meant for our entertainment (Prime motive) and entertainment only happens when the human mind perceives something out of the ordinary ( closer to reality).

I believe its how the youth perceive the stuff they see in cinemas. The documentary, "Bowling for Columbine" highlights how youth are influenced not by entertainment but by the nature of the society they live in and of course the influence. The documentary is about the Columbine High School shoot out that happened a few years ago in the United States where a bunch of students went on a shooting spree killing teachers and young students.
