It highlights the statistics of the entire population of our country. It then explains the 3 important initiatives taken in the education sector in the country namely Teach India campaign, Wipro - Teacher Empowerment program and DiRECWAY Global Education program.

and its greatest weakness. There are millions of children in fields, on the road, in factories - everywhere but in school. You have it in your power to change that. All they need is a little bit of your time.

Statistics

1.2 million schools 6.3 million teachers 290 million students We still have over 287 million illiterate people Of the 460 million between 6 and 24 years, 170 million are not in the education system 90% of students don’t make it to college. The education method in India is still majorly ‘Chalk and Teach’

Teach India Campaign
• Seeks to put those who wan’t to help in touch with NGOs • • • • •
in need of volunteers. Partners with United Nations Volunteers programme. 60 NGOs, corporates, schools and social organisations already supporting TOI cause. Overwhelming response of 89000 people showing interest and around 56000 already registered. Tauted as ‘India’s largest classroom’. Facing a problem of plenty and hence approaching corporates for capacity expansion plans. A similar program in the US called Teach For America (TFA).



WIPRO- Teachers Empowerment Program

• Curriculum for the program was designed, keeping in




mind the requirements of teachers. Partners with social organizations and works with schools in all spaces, urban, semi-urban and rural. Wipro is working with the various stakeholders in 3 broad ways:
1) Intervention.
2) Network. 3) Advocate.

• Aims at developing occupational skills, personal skills,
attitudes and managerial skills of teachers.

DiRECWAY Global education
• • • • • • •
Powerful user interface for interactive communication. Live broadcast video Two-way video and data interactivity Access to a wide variety of value-added solutions like interactive Onsite Learning (IOL). Tie-ups with institutes like IIM-B and XLRI Jamshedpur to offer satellite-based learning programs. Offers courses through studios connected to users in different locations via satellites. Going International.
