Eddie McGuire Drops the C bomb[/b]
Eddie McGuire has claimed that he got his words muddled up after an on-air gaffe last night, dropping the c-bomb on live television.
The Big Week in Footy co-host let slip the swear word on Sunday night during an interview with Port Adelaide midfielder Kane Cornes. After chatting to him about his post-match rub-downs, McGuire told the player go and have a rub, sing your song, enjoy yourself, all those things mate. You might have to have two rubs being an old c***. McGuire, who is president of the Collingwood football club, appeared on Today on Monday morning to explain the on air gaffe, saying he meant to say old campaigner, but got his words muddled. As you know when you're on air and you have a producer in your ear. I caught myself short on campaigner. It wasn't aimed at anything like that, McGuire said.
I sent [Cornes] a text straight after the show as I started getting messages myself. We were all having a bit of a laugh about it. As if I would get on the 7.30 show and say the c word intentionally, he explained. Mr Cornes did not seem bothered by the comment, later tweeting I know I don't play for Collingwood Eddie, but old c*** is a bit harsh! Got a laugh out of that.
Viewers quickly took to social media to take the host to task for his language. Just heard both and Ed and Derm swear on live tv, Suzanne Olsen wrote on the Fox Footy Facebook page. You might need the swear jar out for them next week. Who has a potty mouth?? Debbie Anderton wrote. The fuss even managed to intrude on Twitter's Logies discussion with viewers taking a break from the celebrations to share their surprise.
This is not the first gaffe for the television presenter, who caused controversy last year by suggesting that Aboriginal Sydney Swans player Adam Goodes be used in promotions for King Kong. The incident occurred just days after a Collingwood fan hurled a racial slur at Mr Goodes during a match at the MCG, calling him an ape.
