There is at this day no clear and clean channel for e-waste from it's production site (i.e. large companies, administration, individual consumers) to it's final disposal (reuse / recycling / recovery). This is caused, among others, by the following reasons:
• The lack of awareness, and therefore of policy, within the companies themselves.
• No proper recycling facilities. Even the formal recyclers don't have proper outlets for the different material fractions, e.g. CRT glass, copper, plastics, etc.
• Companies don't have standards for disposal of their equipments, or do not disclose them.
• Lack of coordination and monitoring of the whole system.
• No proper legislation for WEEE
The result is on one hand, the generation of health and environmental impacts, and on the other hand the maintenance of an obscure, complex and non-controlled informal economy.
