Does economic prosperity have any relation to food scarcity?

Recently Mr.Bush blamed India for the rising food prices.His logic is "middle-class population in India is more than the total U.S population".More over the economic growth of India is increasing every yr.So the consumption is also increasing.Since the middle-class population is increasing,so should be the consumption rate.But actuarial paint a contrary picture.The consumption of an American is 5 times more than the consumption an Indian.Actually Mr.Bush is trying to relate the Economic prosperity to the food scarcity.Are these 2 related ?

wat we see is food consumption per person in a developed country is relatively very than in d developing countries. So in a way we can predict tha if our economy is increasing so will b d consumption capacity of the middle class. As they form a very huge part its increase in consumption is surely going to affect the demands n availability of food in this world.
 
I am surprised and utterly disappointed by the kind of stupid, and baseless statements Mr Bush makes.

Mind you, India has a developing middle class while USA already has a population that splurges for not necessity but luxury. Now we have not even reached the stage where we can say the basic needs are fulfilled.

Not to forget the mass deforestation that takes place for corporate business.

NOW, which of the two economies would you consider the reason of the increasing prices?
 
Mr. Bush needs to retake his economics classes as well as understand that indian consumption is highly indigenous and India is a bigger supplier than a sourcer :SugarwareZ-098:

anway he is out. after all the disaster, republicans are not coming to ower for good 15 years now.
 
YES ECONOMIC PROSPERITY HAS RELATION WITH FOOD SCARCITY AT AN ADVANCED STAGE.WHEN THE ECONOMY GROWS IT ACQUIRES NEW TECHNOLOGIES WHICH IMPROVES THE FOOD PODUCTION.BUT LATER MORE AND MORE RESOURCES ARE USED FOR INDUSTRIAL OR TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENT.SO THE LAND AVAILABLE FOR AGRICULTURE GETS REDUCED.
 
FORGOT TO AD DUE TO ECONOMIC PROSPERITY THERE IS WASTAGE OF ENERGY AS IN THE CASE OF USA WHERE IT SEEMS ALMOST EVERYONE IS HAVING A CAR.SO THAT INCREASES THE OIL PRICES AS THE RESERVES ARE LIMITED.THEREFORE IT LEADS TO INFLATION.IT IS MORE PRONOUNCED IN COUNTRIES LIKE INDIA WHERE WE HAVE TO BEAR THE BRUNT FOR BEING A NET IMPORTER OF OIL
